One thing to mention though is that the default IP address of most home routers is actually 192.168.1.1 (and not 198.168.1.1 as mentioned a couple of times). I'm only saying that here in case it helps someone get connected who's not having any luck connecting using "198". Besides that, it's a really helpful, easy to follow tutorial, nicely presented. I like your video. Very clearly explained. One thing you might want to point out is that the processors in routers aren't very powerful (compared to PCs). The act of doing all that encrypting/decrypting will drastically reduce the speeds you get from your ISP. On my ASUS router (RT-AC1900P) I never seem to get much over 20Mbps, even though my ISP will do 400+. I contacted the VPN (in my case PIA) and the guy there explained how the chips in the routers just can't do the job fast enough for high speeds.
@AllThingsSecured4 жыл бұрын
Great point, Kile. It’s good to note that older or cheaper routers will offer slower speeds during encryption.

It depends on how you connect. Usually, on a laptop they'll use your IP address to verify your location, which a VPN can spoof. However, if you connect on your phone, it's much harder to spoof your GPS location, which a VPN cannot help you with. Make sense?

Wow I was looking for a video like this. Your explanations are so clear. I appreciate that. I was wondering, I have a work company laptop which I obviously can't add programs too because I dnt have access to that IT stuff So, I wanted to go out the country leave for a trip, without complicating things and letting my company know that am leaving, so I would take the computer with me. Buttt Do you think if I was to have a router like that, and apply a VPN address that assigns an IP address to direct Home....as I would be hiding my location would this work? I assume I would take the router with me on my trip. And i also have portable wifi hotspot...But will the router show the IP address of home so that work won't be able to track my actual location? I hope i have confused u. The router connects to a wifi right? Lol

Hiii! I want to do the same! Did this work for you? I’m also wondering if you just connect the vpn router to wifi?

Halo, when i log in into my router RT AC - 1200 i can't find the VPN button or tab. how can you help please?
@AllThingsSecured4 жыл бұрын
Birdyboyblue is correct. If there is no VPN tab, you either need to flash your router (which is risky) or just buy a different router that has the VPN capabilities.

Thank you for the Video. If I get the flashrouter do I need to pay for the VPN server monthly?
@AllThingsSecured2 жыл бұрын
Yes, you still have to subscribe to a VPN, but often times the routers come with one year of service.

I'm based in the Philippines and just bought an Asus RT-AC59U and subsribed to ExpressVPN. I tried following your instructions and created a Canada VPN profile but when I clicked on activate, it just loads and the connection status doesn't show the "check" icon. Do you know how to solve this?
@AllThingsSecured4 жыл бұрын
Could be a number of problems. I would reset the router and try again. Then check to see if you're actually connected even though the check mark doesn't show (go to www.whatismyipaddress.com to find that out).

if i wish to set-up and access a server in another country - will i incur any overseas telecom charge?
@AllThingsSecured4 жыл бұрын
If you’re using a commercial VPN, then no. If you’re setting up your own server, then you’ll just have to pay for the internet connection on both ends.

Just purchased the Asus RT-AX86U router and I'm wanting to know if the RT-AC87U installation guide from Asus will work for the router I purchased. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I think it should, but I can’t be for sure.

@@AllThingsSecured is it possible to eliminate and replace the ISP modem with a third party router? Thanks again.

Will I really need a 3 party VPN provider to set a VPN server on my router? What can I do to access the VPN server if I am not home?
@AllThingsSecured3 жыл бұрын
This is different than setting up your own server in your home.

Can i connect with one Routerand one internet connection, each device to different servers (ps. smart tv:America, mobile:Germany,pc: United Kingdom etc. )? Thanks
@AllThingsSecured4 жыл бұрын
The only way to do that would be to download the VPN app on each device and then connect to a different server for each.
