I don't normally comment, but brother: You just saved a whole beer fridge from exploding during a massive freeze! Thank you for doing what you do, and I hope someone saves your bacon some day like you just saved mine!

This is an excellent and quick user guide, thank you. I am using mine for kombucha and vegetables fermentation with a heating mat inside a Styrofoam cooler. I am doing this since it is starting to get cooler here in Canada (Ottawa) and I haven't turned on the furnace yet (waiting another 3-4 weeks) to heat the house so my ferments aren't rising to the desired temps.

Thanks, just about to set mine up for a pilsner kit. Your video was much more helpful than the instructions that came with the inkbird.

You need to set the low and high temperature. Once it goes above the high, the cooling plug should turn on

I have the rubber probe, do I still need to avoid it making physical contact with the wort?
@FamilyDIY3 жыл бұрын
Your choice. Just make sure you sanitized it well.

@@FamilyDIY thanks, yes I think I'll just be sure to sanitise.

So I want to get a heat band for my 5lt carboy, I have a decent recipe for a pear hydromel, 500g orange blossom honey, 1lt pear juice, topped up with water, 5g pectic enzyme, 1g yeast nutrient and 3.5g lallemand voss kveik ale yeast, bottle conditioned and 6.5%, but I think it could be better getting those funky fruity esters at a higher temp, when I feel my carboy its cold and were in November, (I live in AUS) So I was considering getting a small heat band off ebay and getting one of these inkbirds so I can keep it at about 28-30° C My question is when you are only heating do you need to use the probe? If not than I don't see this working, it won't fit in the lid of my carboy, (5lt glass carboy/demijohn with rubber stopper and airlock) Cheers 👍🍻
@FamilyDIY3 жыл бұрын
If you don't use the probe. It won't heat it to the level you want. Check out my video on using the probe with a carboy. You can get a stopper that allows you to put the probe to enter and stay sealed. kzbin.info/www/bejne/aKLMiKt5qc97rrM

Good video but you should explain that you're setting the degrees for when it goes hot or cold if it goes three degrees up you set it at 3 to kick the cooling on vice versa for the heat. you're not actually setting a temperature you're just changing the degree.

You missed the most important part, after you get all your settings in place you need to hold set for 10 more seconds to lock them in, otherwise it will revert to default.
