Maybe it's because I am coming from a quilting background, but I would sew 1/4" down either side of the black lines first and then sew between the clips. It doesn't matter if you sew over the seam allowances. Then you could cut the napkins apart just like you have done. It just eliminates having to make so many turns with the needle down-- 4 vs. 16 turns. Great idea. I like your method so I don't have to do all the hemming like with a traditional napkin, plus they are reversible.

Very Nice.. Gave me idea to do this with burp rags, for the newborns, super soft flannels...I can make them lickety split if i don't have to cut them all and pin them all! Great Idea! BTW, if you clip your corners, off, diagonally, across the point there, then there's not so much bulk in your corners. Also, if you trim down the seams before turning, it's all nice and flat when you press them....but I forgot this was a quicky, on the fly thing....but if you have the time, then trim. It looks much nicer. More finished. But these are great...

Very good idea, what's the final measurements of each napkin? Looks like maybe 12 or 13 inch?
@dianacesani60445 жыл бұрын
You may call them napkins but those are neither the measurements nor the way napkins are made. The elegance of a fabric napkin, in most cases, are well sewn corners and the big size, so you can cover your lap with it. Even paper napkins are bigger than those when you unfold them. Sloppy and incomplete job on the corners. Knowing how fabrics can be drag through the floor at a warehouse even before thay make it to the store, I wouldn't ever in my like would offer a napkin out a fabric that has not been washed. Beatiful fabric choices though. I rather take the time to have my fabric well prepared and have mixed, cute, festive fabric napkins at the table.

Very Nice Video. I have a serger and I love the way you laid this all out I am going to try your idea of marking, then cut up the separate napkins and do a rolled edge all around each napkin with the front and backs together and see what happens. I also love the way you put your label on each napkin and also tied a ribbon around the napkins at the end. I don't have labels but I will give them these napkins to friends and family possibly if I get them made in time. God bless and Happy Thanksgiving 11/28/19.

When using 1/2 yard of fabric, then cutting cross wise, doesn't that create rectangular napkins, each would be about 9x11? I'm going to try using 5/8 yard (22.5 inches). I just found your post and love the idea. Gotta finish my current project so I can give it a try.

Awesome. Can you help me with something? We have the same sewing machine in this tutorial. For some reason when I sew, the bobbin thread gets bunched up while I'm sewing. Do you know why that is?
@chickad58208 жыл бұрын
I put a comment for you Psalmsofsongs but it went under happy tulips. sorry
@annettetuscherer98026 жыл бұрын
PSALMSOFSONGS It could be caused by many things, your needle needs changed, not the correct needle for the fabrics used, or you may need a new bobbin. Check to make sure your machine is threaded correctly and that your bobbin is wound correctly. Also check the quality of your thread. Old thread can cause a lot of problems too. Check in your machine's handbook, it usually has a troubleshooting area to look up problems.
@nuvoclassic6 жыл бұрын
I just hold the 2 thread tails together (top thread and bobbin thread) when I first start to sew a seam - then not bunching or nesting. Try holding the threads together..

Very clever! I'm going to try these. You could even make placemats like this, if the fabric was a larger cut. They wouldn't be stuffed, but that's okay, right?
@marydillard13575 жыл бұрын
You could add a piece of batting to the place mats and have a beautiful set of napkins and place mats!!! What a wonderful gift idea!!! I think i'm going to do a "holiday set" with maybe 2 napkins and place mats for each holiday. (Christmas, Thanksgiving, Valentines etc)

Hello there. I have a question. Did you tried to make a thick winter coat like 4 layers using this machine?
@KandiaHaynesworth8 жыл бұрын
Hello! Thank you, for watching my video! To answer your question, No.. I have not tried to make a thick winter coat - I am not sure if this machine could handle 4 thick layers. This is a great beginner's sewing machine but sewing 4 thick layers seems to push limits.
@chickad58208 жыл бұрын
Have you tried changing your needle? or rewinding the bobbin if it's not a prewound purchased bobbin? Might be putting the bobbin or threading the machine wrong? If you've redone these steps, your tension might be off. If you can sew a distance of even an inch you should beable to look at the tension. Get your manual out and it will show you specifics on what the sewing threads should look like and what wrong looks like too. Follow your manual instruction. It's generally just a simple needle change. Do that first. Hope this helps. Just another seamstress

Kandia, beautiful job! I've sewn my whole life and never did the research to have my own tags with my name. Where do you get them or please do a video on making them. I also have an embroidery machine but that tag seems simpler and cheaper. We always do homemade gifts for holidays and I'm teaching my gkids to sew. They of course need their own tags. My 8 yr old gson sews his own ties and does the fancy knots. He could make himself a business if he could tag his own work. He would LOVE that! Thanks again. YOU ROCK!

Wow! You make it look so easy. I really like the prints. But as a European I'm so confused by your measurements. Half a yard? I have no idea how long that is. Tips for you European audiences is to writhe the measurements in the description box. That way we can cope and paste it to google and find out for or self.
