Super appreciate the all-purpose thread approach and mention, I got a good deal on two boxes of polyester threads in two dozen colours and am happy to work within their very basic thread functioning. :). This is in stark contrast my previous hobby of cardmaking, I got every kind of glue and tape imaginable and needed to be certain I was using the best adhesive for the situation. That got exhausting, so I'm happy to be learning a whole new creative skill with what I hope are better consumer attidused and choices. :) PS your tote is SO CUTE, omg!

I recently discovered your KZbin channel. I love your positive enthusiasm and how you relate so well to your viewers. I have made several of your projects already. Regarding this project, I was wondering if you sew all 4 of the boxed corners together, would you still be able to sew up the turning hole?
@ChristinesHomeAffairs Жыл бұрын
Thank you Mike. With this bag, the opening is on the side, so when you join the corners, it will be hidden, and you'll think it's disappeared. Just find your way between the layers, and you'll be able to pull it all through. I did another video recently (giant utility bag) that shows how to join corners, and I think that video has the opening at the bottom😀
@carylannerosten Жыл бұрын
Hi Christine, I'm asking you to explain why the different methods of sewing the zipper section is used. in this pouch we can sew straight across, but others have outer and lining sewn up to the zipper separately then stitch across the zipper area. Thanks Christine. Perhaps the fabrics designate the methods?
@ChristinesHomeAffairs Жыл бұрын
Good question Carylanne. In this bag, I didn't feel the need to put tabs on the end, as the zipper ends on a flat section of the bag. This means that it will sit nicely without the added tabs. There's really no right or wrong way to do the zips. It's mostly personal choice, and whether or not it will affect how the bag will operate. Adding tabs, particularly when you have zips on corners, will help the corners sit better😀

Merryl, if you're in Australia, you will find it at Spotlight, and also all your independant quilt shops. If you can't get it, let me know, and I'll add it to my website. If you're elsewhere, do a Google search for Pellon, Fusible wadding, and it should come up. It's quite easy to find😀
@hilarysutherland682 Жыл бұрын
Love everything you do. I am looking for an upcycle version of interfacing. Do you have any suggestions?
@ChristinesHomeAffairs Жыл бұрын
That's a great idea Hilary. Good topic for a video too. I always say that interfacings and stabilisers are really just personal choice when it comes to making bags and craft items. Nobody HAS to use what is recommended, so I'm thinking that you could substitute it with anything depending on the amount of stability you're after. A good alternative to fusible products, is to use a spray adhesive, or even double sided tape to keep things in place. I do this when I create patches. Glue sticks are great too..... Back to substitutes. You could use towlling or blanketing for soft waddings, denim for something a bit firmer, and then even a combination of products. Old coats or quilted gowns would be great too😀

This is a great one, Christine, what size needle do you suggest for sewing the strapping on a domestic machine, please

Good morning , I hope you don't mind me answering, sewing with polyester webbing use a 90/14 with poly thread, when using upholstery fabric use a denim needle. So if you dont have denim needle use a 110/18 sharp. Have fun

Thanks Carylanne. Great answer. 😀

Faye, on my domestic machines, I usually use a 90/14 as Carylanne suggested. In fact most of the upholstery fabric sewing I do on a domestic is done with that size needle. I also use the larger denim needles as well. 😀

Hi Christine. You mentioned you use a certain needle so don't have much problem going over zips. Can you tell me what you use?
@ChristinesHomeAffairs Жыл бұрын
Yes Cathy. If you're using a domestic machine, I'd use a universal or Jeans needle size 16/100. If your machine can handle it, you could also use 18/110 needles. On my industrial machines, I use 18/110 or 20/120 if the fabric is really heavy. 18 is enough though😀
@cathysimpson6126 Жыл бұрын
@@ChristinesHomeAffairs thank you. I don’t understand needle sizes much (might be a good, quick video for you to make). I have a pack of Singer universal needles that say 90 over 14, and a Schmetz universal pack that says 130/705H and under it 90/14. 🤔🤷♀️
@ChristinesHomeAffairs Жыл бұрын
@cathysimpson6126 that's a good idea. The 90/14 is the needle size, and the other numbers are the needle system which indicates what type of machine the needle should be used for 😀
