Boning is an essential part of corsetry. You can sew your corset without boning for free bodycon dresses/tops but for materials like ankara, crepe, Lace etc you have to add boning for stability and firmness. This also gives a snatched waist effect. If boning is not added to a corset with the materials I listed, it will not look as good as a corset with boning. There are 5 tips in a making a corset that won't reveal your chest : 1. By adding 1inch or 1.5 inch to the line extension. In my previous video, I drafted out a corset using an easy method. I used the distance between the bust point and Underbust to extend the Nipple to Nipple point line above the Bust point. To avoid revealing the bust, add 1 or 1.5 inch to the distance you get between the Bust point and Underbust when extending the line e.g the distance I got was 3inches, to avoid revealing my bust I will add 1inch or 1.5 to that when extending the line. Depending on your Bust size, ensure you take 2 inches(for smaller bust) or 1 inch(for bigger bust) away from the armhole when creating the cups. Taking in 2 inches when creating corset cups of a bigger bust will give the corset cups a push up effect hence exposing the cleavage so use 1inch instead for a bigger bust. Check out my corset drafting video to understand better 👇 kzbin.info/www/bejne/p4q5nH2keJV1fJY 3. Draft your corset cups WITHOUT using 'ready made' cups I can not emphasize this enough. Using 'ready made' cups to draft your corset cups can not cover your bust fully even if you use 2 sizes bigger (which is always advisable if you're drafting with 'ready made' cups). Bra foam or warden can be adjusted to create a covered bust but 'ready made' cups are fixed and will expose the bust. Please draft your cups normally, add the necessary allowances as stated in number 1 and 2, use bra form or warden for the cups and if you want, add the 'ready made' cups inside for extra support. 4. Always draft your corset with yoke. The honest truth is, any dress or top without a yoke usually exposes the bust with any little movement because there's no support holding the bust area up. If you don't want to reveal your cleavage you have to add yoke to your corset for vertical support. 5. If all the above isn't what you're interested in, consider using an underbust corset instead. An underbust corset allows you to make the neckline as high as you want thus covering the bust since the main corset only starts at the underbust. The upper part is usually a standard bustier or princess dart bustier. Note that an underbust corset can't be sewn without boning. Yes! you can still make a corset with a princess dart bustier but this can either be an Underbust corset or a Victorian corset. Thanks for watching! When drafting on pattern paper, it is not possible to add sewing allowances while drafting the cups or the measurements won't be accurate. The only allowance that can be added without affecting the measurement is the allowance at the side seams. Other allowances should be added directly to the fabric. For the boning dart do u have a measurement as per the distance between this dart for the boning and the other one like how many inch apart

Okay, this totally depends on the person making the boning casings. There's no standard measurement for the distance as your boning design, client's body type or choice of style may vary. I've had to make some boning casing distance smaller for some clients to fit their body type and made others bigger to fit the body type of other clients. Another factor is, when recreating a style given to me by my client, I follow how the boning casings are done. This is why there's no standard for the distance. The three most important things here is 1.Ensure any distance you choose for your boning casings is maintained all through for a uniform or symmetrical look. 2. Ensure the boning does not interfere with your sewing allowance. Always ensure your boning casings end 1.5inch away from your side seams. 3. On the dart line directly below the bust, there has to be a boning casing to support the bust. This is very important and shouldn't be left out. The distance between your boning all depends on your personal choice, style and what you or your client is comfortable with. There's no particular standard but I personally use between 1.5inch - 3inches. I hope my comment helps. Feel free to reach out if you need more explanation 👍

Thanks for watching! The bra form is different from the form used by carpenters. This type of form is made specifically for padding the Bust as it has a sewable side and in some cases, Designers use it to create structure in other areas of a dress. Generally, Sewing accessory shops sell the Bra form just like the warden. So please, kindly ask the person selling if they have bra form for sale. It is not as popular as the warden but it is very effective and can be manipulated as you want in contrast with the ready made cups. It ranges from N600-N800 per yard(in Nigeria) and lasts really long. I hope my reply helps 👍

Thanks for watching ! Yes it is, it's called a Rigiline boning. It is sewable and give a medium waist snatching effect. The plastic and iron boning helps to give a better snatched waist because they're firmer.

Yes it does, the major difference is that (a)The darts taken during drafting of the cups will be more to prevent gaping (b)When extending the lines on the nipple to nipple point, use the distance between the Bust point and the under bust plus 1 inch (C) The distance between the Armhole and the cups will be less than 2inches so that the cups can cover the bust properly.
