Some people call it a camp collar, it's also known as a bowling shirt, but I personally prefer a Cuban Collar Vacation Shirt.
In this video tutorial I show the exact process I went through to sew the collar of this camp / bowling / vacation shirt.
I made mine out of a nice heavy linen.

Like I’ve been saying, I should have just saved all the cash I used to attend my fashion college where they didn’t even teach me this and just finish my studies here on KZbin like I started doing! I wish I had watched this video before making my husband a Cuban collared shirt (we call it a Hawaiian style). Never having made men's wear before, I was lost. I "made" it work but the collar is bulky. THANKFULLY I have seen this video and now can make better versions of the shirt for him. I thank you. My husband will no doubt thank you in the future when is wearing the shirts I make him.

@@CorneliusQuiring Thanks for your reply. Well I'm looking forward to seeing all those new videos. And before I forget. I want to pay you a compliment. I like the fact that you're using a vintage Singer sewing machine in a cabinet. And a singer machine that was one of the lower price models. This goes to prove a point that I've always felt strongly about. You don't have to spend hundreds or thousands of dollars on a sewing machine or sewing products, to be able to turn out good work. Especially in today's economy, nobody can legitimately spend that kind of money. So thanks for proving that sewing can be for everybody and not just those comfortably off.

Thank you so much for this video! I have a Vogue vintage dress pattern with a flat button up collar (without a stand) which I want to convert to “vacation style” - on the original the collar is just too big and from the pictures of other sewists who have made it, it doesn’t lie flat if left open. I wasn’t sure how to deal with this but I’m going to make a toile using your technique and your collar and placket measurement!,

Saudações do Brasil!

I imagine it should work, yes. I think you could even tuck the collar inside of the double yoke if done in the right order.

This is a pattern I created for myself. If you have a pattern for a shirt like this, a slight tweak to the design and you'll be able to make it. You could also make it from scratch based on this video

Hello cornelius, I noticed that one of your arms appears larger than the other. May I ask if there is a reason for this difference in size?
@CorneliusQuiring
@CorneliusQuiring Жыл бұрын
Keen observation. Yes, my right side is smaller from a farm accident as a child. I learned to sew to make clothes tailored uniquely to fit my body. I go into a bit more depth about it here: cornelius.ooo/my-story/
