Hiiii! To mark your desired length, just cut as shown but make the length your desired length … if it’s not long enough, you will have to include joining like I did 🤎

I want to use elastic waist instead of zipper, would anything be different.

Well it depends, if you want the band to have a bulky look then you make it bigger than your waist measurement (in fact, that’s what I recommend) but other than that it should be fine.
