Thank you again for a wonderful lesson. My first thought (being someone who looks for short cuts 🤪) could you apply the edging first before sewing the fabric together? It would be less fiddly.

That was fab - thank you so much for doing this video. I'm about to sew a denim jacket, and I think I'm going to try this method. Now to find some fabulous binding!!! x🥰

It's a pleasure, I'm so glad it was useful and your denim jacket will look fantastic. @thezipperfoot made a beautiful one with some of our denim last year and used leopard bias for the seam finishes - soooo pretty you should look it up on her IG feed.

Hello Lucy. I’ve watched this tutorial through twice now to see if I was missing something but it appears that you leave open the raw edge of the binding on the underside of the seam allowance. Is there not a risk that this will cause the binding edge to fray? Or is it unlikely to fray because it’s cut on the bias? It’s such a professional finish, especially to a waistband facing and I would like to understand fully how to reproduce it. Thank you.
@SewEssential4 жыл бұрын
Hi Celia, yes I did leave the raw edge on the underside because it is a polycotton binding and unlikely to fray, plus the line of stitching from the stitch in the ditch should prevent anything untoward happening in that respect. If you were worried you could try folding the edge of the binding under, but this will create bulk and be more difficult to catch as you sew. Hope that helps.

Sew Essential thank you. I understand now and I’ll definitely try this method.

I've just made an unlined jacket with Hong Kong seams and absolutely love it. Yes it did take time and effort (especially as I made my own Liberty lawn bias!) but was totally worth it as the inside is now stunning!

I bet it is, Liberty no less, how lovely and special. You will feel fantastic every time you wear it.

What do you do with the ends of the bias tape? Do fold it in or just leave a raw edge
@znycelondon53133 жыл бұрын
As far as my reference……I always construct my pieces so that the ends of them are enclosed in final seams.

If one is planning to use this seam finishing method, wouldn't it be easier to bind the edges of the pieces before sewing them together?
@janmiller18504 жыл бұрын
Very possibly but you might want to be sure of the fit first. 💚
@SewEssential4 жыл бұрын
@@janmiller1850 thanks Jan, that would be an important consideration you are so right. I also always think there isn't really a right or wrong way, it is about what works for you and gets you the results you are looking for.

I don't think that would be as accurate as binding after the seam is sewn. You could end up with a wobbly seam.
