Thank you so so much for this amazingly helpful and some tutorial! As an absolutely self taught home sewer this has given me such a boost of confidence - it is my best neckline to date. Wow. Thanks so very much Hayley..great tutorial! I just bombed my last neckband (actually my first go at a v neck top). Eventually I will get up the gumption to try again. Happy holidays to you and your family. Love that you are doing a lot more videos. 🥰

Very helpful! Thank you! You are the 8th knit neckline video I have watched and wish I had watched yours first and I wouldn’t have to have watched the others! lol I have struggled with the knit necklines being wonky and it keeps me from sewing up my stash of knit and knit patterns. I will try your method. 🤞 one of the biggest problems with deciding the neckline is the variations in the amount of stretch for all the different knits. I was hoping to find a chart to figure out the stretch and then what percentage of neckline do you cut each different knit. I have a chart for stretch but not the other part of info for percentage to cut each knit neckline. You are the first person to show how to figure out if your neckline facing needs to be smaller! THANK YOU🙌🙌

Wow! Awesome video! Question: for arm whole band, are you still reducing the size of band by 70-80 as well?
@SewHayleyJane3 ай бұрын
For the cuff? Not necessarily - this is the Tilly and the Buttons Billie which has a puff sleeve. So the sleeve opening is a lot wider than the finished cuff will be. For this I would just use whatever is recommended in the pattern you are using.

Very easy to understand. But I missed the width dimension of the neckband you cut. Would you please tell me how wide the strip is that you cut for this video? Thank you so much!

Thank you, I just used the pattern piece for the neckband for the width. This is the Tilly and the Buttons Billie sweatshirt so used the neckband piece that came with that

Haley great video. I made the Pansy dress by poppy&Jazz on my serger. I used a cotton Jersey. First time of using this type of fabric. However I made a big boo boo. The skirt has 2 rows of gathering stitches. Did that no pobs. Then stitched it together. Went ok. But when I turn it right way out. I could see the gathering stitches. So I took them out. My gathering almost all but disappeared.😮😢😢😢 on my serger the brother Lock 2104D there seems to be no wiggle room to insert more fabric underneath the pressure foot. What should I have done? I thought by surging it it would be quicker which it was. I seemed to have paid the price in loosing my gathering

Have you ever put a purchased knit collar on a t-shirt? I am looking for suggestions on how to do it. I have a box of collars that I need to use up. Would doing the jersey neckline work?
@SewHayleyJane29 күн бұрын
Hey, I haven't ever done that so couldn't say, especially not without seeing the collars. I guess as long as the type of fabric in the collar matches the weight and thickness of the t-shirt collar it could work

If you are changing a pattern to increase the neckline, what do you recommend?
@SewHayleyJane4 ай бұрын
I would just measure around the neckline opening after sewing the shoulder seams together - reduce that measurement by 10% to start with and add seam allowance. Use that measurement to cut a neckband and baste it in place. If it feels too loose you can reduce the length of the neckband until it feels right. Hope that helps

Hello! Did you cut your neckband on the straight or cross grain? Does it matter? Thank you!
@SewHayleyJane4 ай бұрын
I think on the cross grain so it has the most amount of stretch

Hi Hayley, why did you only add 1x 1.5cm, instead of 2x 1.5cm? You need SA on both ends of the neckband (unless you’re cutting it on the fold). Also shouldn’t you measure at the seam line, not at the cut edge of the neckline? Thanks.
@SewHayleyJane2 жыл бұрын
Hi Claire, thank you for your comments. Yes you are correct I probably should have added 3cm for seam allowance - however I ended up taking so much extra off anyway. And re measuring at the seam line - I think if it was a woven garment I would probably do that, for jersey which stretches it doesn't have to be quite so precise as a home/hobby sewist. This video is just how I do it, how I have learnt myself over the years. Hope that helps

I note you measure the neckline to determine how long to make the neckband - but I didn't hear how wide you make the neckband. Maybe I missed it?
@SewHayleyJane11 ай бұрын
The pattern I used came with a neckband piece so I used that to determine the width.
@ainoeveliina7883 ай бұрын

I used the neckband pattern piece that came with the jumper pattern - this was the Tilly and the Buttons Billie.
