I vary between hand and spread hand when drafting pockets. I use a straight edge on the fabric and draft from there.

Yep, I also used to use my phone as a guide for the size of the pattern, but I have noticed due to the weight of the phone I rarely put it in my pockets - it is like logging a brick around, lol, even though my phone is not the newest.

Shanaaz, hello there! Yes... with soft pants/tights - the pockets are easy seen through... which is why I assume a lot of them don't have them.

I make 12C gowns with pockets in the side seams. I sew the pockets to the gown first and then stitch from wrist to ankle going around the pocket.

Hi Alisa. I'm curious about what iron you are using and what you like about it. I am not sure if you have mentioned it before, so I am asking here.
@ThoughtfulCreativityАй бұрын
Hello there, Eilene! I had a cheap Black&Decker (I think) for years, until it broke some time last year, so we went to Walmart for a new iron and I saw this CHI iron that looked like it could steam really well, at least from a selection that they had, which wasn't very large. It was about $80, which felt like a hefty price for an iron, but honestly, when I saw how well it steams - my world turned upside down, he he :) I don't know if there are better irons, and there probably are, but I do like this one and hope to use it for a while. I would say that's what I like about it the most, steam and heat settings for different fibers - synthetics, wool, cotton, linen, so that way I don't have to guess. I hope this helps :)
@eileneblanc5565Ай бұрын
Yes, thank you. It helps a lot. Funny thing: I actually have a Black and Decker that I have had for a really really long time (25?+ years) it's starting to show some issues so I'm going to be shopping around.
@ThoughtfulCreativityАй бұрын
@@eileneblanc5565 wow, 25+ years! You know... That's how it was when I was growing up, but not anymore... They don't make electronics (and not just electronics) they way they used to. Now a lot of things don't last half the time they used to, no matter how much you take care of them.

Can you tell me how I get my free template for a no show side seam? I am a member but can't seem to find it. I want to put it in a skirt I am making. Thank you.
@ThoughtfulCreativity8 күн бұрын
Hi Kim, sorry about that, but I never mentioned a template for this pocket in the video as I show very detailed how to make your own. I do however have 2 other pocket templates for Members, one is a patch pocket and the other one is a simple side seam pocket template, both are on Google Drive in the "Instruction sheets for garments" folder. One is named "patch pocket" and the other one is "side seam pocket" and if your files are sorted in the alphabetical order then you will see it towards the bottom of the screen. You can sue both of these templates for your needs, but you will probably need to adapt them, they might be too small for modern phones, if you'd like to have a phone in your pocket. You will also need to adapt them in case you want your pocket to be anchored at the waist as in this tutorial, but that is a quick fix as per this tutorial :) I hope this helps :)
@kimhanback13028 күн бұрын
@ThoughtfulCreativity thank you so much. I just misunderstood in thinking you said there was a template.

No worries at all! :) the good thing - it so quick to make one, just pencil it in around your hand/or phone/or wallet :) I am sure your skirt will be fabulous!
