Its Funny how this showed up in my KZbin feed today, I remember watching this video 5 years ago during my fashion college days in Singapore, while panicking and stressing over a class assignment in which I had to sew a shirt yoke, it was my first time doing anything like that and I remember watching a lot of videos from this channel for help And it really helped me tons! Thank you so much! Hope you are doing well! 👍🏻

If your stitch length is appropriate to the weight of the fabric, it is typically unnecessary to back stitch. However, if you are uncertain, you'll never go wrong with backstitching, but you can go wrong without! One of the reasons not to backstitch is to reduce bulk. A method I often employ instead of backstitching in order to reduce bulk is to decrease my stitch length at the beginning and end of a seam for about half an inch to anchor the ends.

Thank you!

A tip for those who find making a crease at centre doesn't hold its shape, you can snip in a tiny triangle at that point, WITHIN your seam allowance. DO NOT go beyond. SAme technique can be applied for notches on other parts of your patter pieces as well. To the admin: I will give this yoke method a go and leave my feedback later. Your explanation is by far the clearest to understand. Filmed and presented professionally.

Hi Russell. Enjoyed your video - nice and easy presentation. I am pretty experienced at sewing but I just love it when I pick up a new tip, which I have from your video today. I do actually attach the yoke as you have shown, but generally struggle to bunch up all the fabric so I can attach the yoke to the front pieces in one seam. Your easy way of rolling up the pieces (I think you called it burrito) is such a great and simple technique. I could feel myself thinking why haven't I just done that before. Many thanks and I look forward to learning something else from you. Finally, it is so good to see other men sewing! Best - David

Excellent video!! Very referential to Islander Sewing teachings per the "burrito" technique. Would have loved to see an extension table or recessed in a cabinet for professional industrial ergonomics. Baby Lock makes a great extension table for the Symphony which would have allowed the fabric to lay flat without hanging over the edge.
