My memories on fb came up today that I had finished 200 caps during Covid. I eventually made 1500 caps and used your pattern. They were all given free of charge to front line workers. Thank you.

I'm a CCRN working the front lines. I sewed myself a hat that I came up with a pattern for. One thing led to another and along with another nurse, during this necessary quarantine, began sewing scrub hats to cover the heads of our team! I wish I had stumbled upon your AMAZING pattern and video before I began all that!! I really would have saved a ton of time!! WHAT A GREAT PATTERN!! You are a genius!! Not only great, simple time saving directions via youtube, but your pattern saves on fabrics! I'm using my never-ending stash of fabrics I've bought over the years but with work, kids etc, couldn't find the time to make the projects intended for them. I suppose I've found the project intended for those fabrics!! Thanks again!!

Oh my goodness, thank you for saying so! I'm so glad it helped. It is definitely a great stash buster! Finally we don't have to feel so bad about all that fabric hoarding over the years, right?! Stay safe on the front lines and thank you for your service!

Thank you! Haven't sewn in years and your clear, concise, no-nonsense instructions are much appreciated! My daughter and her ICU coworkers are recipients, thanks to your instructional. I added a piece of interfacing where I sew buttons because, depending on the mask elastuc length, the stress was pulling out the button and frequently resulted in holes.

I never knew how to sew before until Covid19 changed our lives. I've been able to make this cap for my son who is a CT Tech. I had to KZbin everything about using a sewing machine. He said they work great. Thank you for allowing me to help my son during these tough times. I plan to make more and provide to his co-workers. It's a blessing to help! Thank you.

Nicely done. Something you did (that so many tutorials don't) is to use a contrasting thread for demonstration. It really makes it a lot easier to follow the construction steps when you do that, and I for one really appreciate it!

I have a sewing machine that has sat in my closet for over 15 years. Last thing I made was a dog pillow that was round. I have no sewing skills but got that sewing machine out and have made these surgical hats for my work . They were all so impressed. I have made them out of our old surgical scrubs that we do not use anymore. My Mom had thread of all colors in her old sewing box. These have cost us nothing but my time, which I have been happy to spend making these instead of stressing out over everything. THANK YOU FOR SUCH AN EASY AND HELPFUL VIDEO.

I don’t understand any of the down thumbs. This is definitely a great video on making the caps, but the free printable directions, pattern, and scale drawing are so good that you could skip the video and do just fine making a cap. Thank you for all the time you put into this, and for freely sharing with the world.

I need to print off another pattern! WOW! Neat, new pattern!! I've made 24 so far, and have another 30 in the wings. Just waiting for more fabric, solids to use with all of the donated fabric and my stash. I've been using my serger.... for the first time since getting it from an old neighbor. In the 90s. I'm strangely grateful for the opportunity to get to know the machine while helping others. I am using my hoard, too! Wins all around. I hope everyone is staying safe and healthy. These are going to several hospitals in Michigan.

This is such a great, easy-to-follow tutorial! Thanks. A couple ideas that made my project easier for me are as follows: I used card stock and traced the pattern on there to use as a template. I used the template to trace the pattern onto wrong side of fabric to cut out. (I use regular scissors so tracing makes it easier to cut.) Once pattern is traced onto fabric, throw a couple of straight pins around each traced pattern piece to hold it while cutting. I also found that once you iron the little flap up on very end of the ties (on video at minute 6:14), once it's folded up and ironed, if you cut the corners off both sides of little flap it makes it look so much nicer once you fold both sides of ties together to sew for finishing the cap.

I was happy to find fabric on Etsy and your pattern made it perfect. Actually, your video caught my eye because of the fabric. 😊 Now, to make some for the nurses in the family.

Thanks Becky. A wonderful tutorial. Easy to follow. Most impressed that you did a pattern on a graft, for those of us who don’t have a printer or cannot get it to print. On another site someone had said they wanted to make some to help and ask I’d she could just give the length and width of the oval. She did not have a printer and the woman had given the measurements for the band part, and she replied “If you don’t have a friend who could print it and mail it to you, then you’re just out of luck”. I was so shocked. Can’t we just be kind and helpful... Thanks again for the extra effort you made to help us . God bless you.

Thank you! I'm glad you found it helpful. It is a lot of work to create a video/tutorial and provide a free pattern, then takes a lot of time to provide support to people using the pattern, so I completely understand if pattern designers can't answer every question or provide additional resources. Most of us aren't being paid a thing and are giving our limited free time to help others just by providing a pattern (especially now while taking care of our own families and home schooling our kids, while working full time at home or out of the home). Stay safe and happy sewing. xo

I've made some of these and they turned out great! This video is super helpful! One lady I made some for, though has a lot of hair and I am wondering if I can alter the pattern a bit to accommodate her hair? Would it be possible to cut the top part longer in the back and/or extend the back sloping parts to allow for more pulled back hair to sit? They are not interested in the ponytail caps so I'd love to be able to make the tie back caps differently.

You absolutely can make it! If you want to add a toggle closure (and you have toggle hardware), cut the pattern off at the 11" mark, then tuck a lace or shoestring into each end before you fold the hem up along the brim, slide on a toggle, and knot the strings! It would be worth giving it a try. :)

Great pattern and video. I have some needs for a larger version, so I just added an inch all around the hat top and an inch at the fold and it worked out perfect. So glad you told me about "make one guelph" in Guelph for the fabric as all our local fabric stores are closed.

Great idea to size it up. I'm glad it worked out! I'm so happy you ordered from Make 1! Thanks for letting me know. It's nice to be able support a small independent business during this crazy time - they need all the help they can get. Hopefully your local shop will open up soon!

THANKS soooo much for this tutorial!! I watched several tutorials by far the best!!! Yours was simple and beautiful. The video and instructions were easy to follow. After I made the first one, I was off and running with several more. I gave them to my son's girlfriend who is a nurse. She LOVES them. The button was a great idea too. I'm going to make many more for her to share with fellow nurses. Thanks again!!
