Hello Ruthie, I'm glad to hear that this video is helpful to you. Regarding the ruffle strip on the hemline. You are simply going to multiply the width of the skirt hem by 2. You will then gather it to fit the skirt hem. Attach the ruffle on the skirt right sides of the fabrics should be facing then sew all around. I hope that helps!

If you have a similar skirt style already you can use it as your pattern and guide. Then each tier is going to be double in width for you to be able to gather it.

The ruffles should be double the size of the lining to make it really ruffly.

What can you use if you don’t have a surger?

You can roll the hem twice to hide a fray edge then sew or you can also use an overcast stitch if it's available on your machine if not use a zigzag stitch. I hope that helps.

Really like this. Could this be made for an adult skirt in a flimsy material to give it lots of movement. Do you think for an adult I could make an A-line skirt and add ruffles to it would that work do you think? I can't seem to find a ladies pattern. You know when you have an idea in your head to how you want something to look but can't find a pattern.

You can use a lightweight fabric just like you said, you will have to line it tho. A-line skirt would be great for adults, this type of cut will add extra volume to the hips.

Hi how were you able to come up with the lining measurement width and length?

I simply added 12 inches to the waistline measurement. Ex 19 waistline + 12 and that is the lining of the skirt.

For the length you just want to make sure that the lining is going to be slightly shorter than the bottom ruffles. Honestly I just estimated it.

What's the length of the fabric strips? In the video you said "6-8 inches long" did you mean feet? Those don't look like inches long.

The strips of fabrics are 3 times the width of the main skirt.

Measure the length of the skirt, divide by 3 add 1 inch allowances on top and bottom edge of the strips. Each strips will be twice longer as it comes down to the bottom tier to achieve the gathered look. For the lining just double her waistline to get the width.

I basically double the length of each tier so there will be enough fabric to gather for example first tier is 24 inches , 2nd tier is 48 inches then, 3rd tier is 96 inches
