How to Sew a Toddler T-shirt Dress Tutorial with a T-shirt and Printed Fabric

I am working on my crafting To Do list and at the top of the list was to make a T-shirt Dress for my 3 year old granddaughter. Grab one of those t-shirts from the drawer and some fun fabric that coordinates with the t-shirt and let's make a dress. Follow along with me as I go step by step through the process to make a cute little dress for my favorite toddler.

Wal-mart has really nice blank t-shirts for toddlers and little girls. Target does as well, but they are more expensive.

You will need a t-shirt in the size the child you are making this for wears. I show you how I measured the t-shirt to get the length of material I need to make the skirt. You will need a sewing machine, rotary cutter, ruler, pins or clips.

I make these for women's shelters and Samaritan's purse Christmas boxes. Dresses aren't fitted, so will fit the girl a while. Add lace and they are so cute.

Divide the fabric into 4 sections before you gather, attach each section mark to 1-front, 2-side seam, 3 back hallway point, 4 other seam, then attach

I find t shirts at Dollar Tree and Walmart clearance for $1. Get new fabric at Goodwill.

Nice way to save on supplies. I will look for shirts at the dollar store. I have looked for fabric at Goodwill but am bot usually lucky enough to find it. :-)

@@aprilscraftroom Inspect the t shirts. Some have holes, as they are seconds. You can also use the bottoms that you cut off for shorts-style panties. A little work, but fun to do. You just make a little slit in the center and add a pieced crotch from 2 pieces of the same color, using the hems. That way you don't have to do anything else but add elastic to the waist.
