I legitimately watched over 20 tutorials for invisible zippers today, some only for 20 seconds as they were far too complicated to begin with. However, your walkthrough was extremely thorough, easy to understand, and made me feel like a winner when my dang pillow zipper was actually invisible!!! Thank you so much for encouraging me to “go slowly” in my work. My pillow looks store-bought and I’m not frustrated!! Hope you don’t mind I added it to Pinterest so I could find it again!

Thank you for making this tutorial, I have watched so many videos and until watching yours I never felt like I had the right instruction. I have been procrastinating on a love one's zipper repair for a year. (thank God for their patience). But as I have never done an invisible zipper before, and I as I tried once and failed miserably, I needed your expert instructions. Now I will try it!

I am getting ready to construct a vintage Vogue dress with an invisible back zipper. I will be using some really expensive fabric that I don't want to screw it up so, I have watched every invisible zipper tutorial on KZbin. Yours is, by far, the easiest method and the best explained. Unlike most sewing tutorials, yours explains WHY you do what you do. This makes it so much more meaningful and understandable. Thank you very, very much for this invaluable instruction. A good teacher makes all the difference. Well done!

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! Beautiful liberty print dress from a charity (thrift) shop, pale grey blue floral, why did manufacturer put in a bright cream ordinary zip with no cream in the dress? Thanks to you, I've just put in an almost matching invisible zip, I am so thrilled. Now the dress looks fabulous and won't gape any more. It was driving me crazy, every time I did up the old zip, the fabric caught in it, as it was sewn down further over to the edge, now problem solved forever, I am so happy you made this clear and easy video, emphasising the importance of rolling the zip teeth aside, magic! Cannot thank you enough...

Awesome material. I really appreciate your work. There are so many videos about installing invisible zip but most of them don't really go to the bottom of the problem.I've watched so many of them, they look easy but miss the key tricks to succeed (in my opinion) . You show precisely what exactly needs to be done (unfolding the coils etc). Breaking down the process is the best way for me to follow and learn. Video is consistent, easy to understand and basically appears professional! Thanks for that! 😊

I always get compliments for my regular zippers doing them similar to the way you showed. I wanted to refresh my memory so watched some videos on invisible zips before I did one and NONE of them basted the seam first! This seemed strange to me but I assumed I was wrong and tried it- complete disaster! Your video is so clear and helpful. You restored my confidence in sewing zips! Thank you x

Thank you for this video! I'm the kind of sewer who knows all of the steps to install a zip correctly... but then when it's time to actually do it, I forget all of the basting steps. I really liked that, at every step, you talked about why you were doing it, and what doing it correctly would look like, and what the effects of doing a poor job would be. It really drove home the message to just... take your time, do it right.

This was a super tutorial - I'd like to add - even though it is 3 years since the last comment - that, by using 1/4" ---wash away --- (water soluable) sticky tape - (look for Wonder Tape), you can eliminate both the pins used to attach the zipper to the fabric, and the basting down of the zipper. Additionally, I don't know this for sure - but a while back -25 years ago! you had to know if you had a short shank or long shank - machine - when you buy additional - attachments. And speaking about attachments - there used to be invisible zipper feet attachments sold specifically for the use of invisible zippers. The zipper food works well, but the specific invis. zipper foot (used to get them where zippers were sold in fabric shops)(not expensive) --have grooves that guide the coils of the invis. zipper. And again - they included long & short shank feet. Perhaps currently - sewing machine mfgs. decided on universally sized shanks - I don't know - but look in your owner's manual to check. Lastly, this was so beautifully done, I wish all the tutorials I ever looked up were as precisely done as this, and as fully explained. I am so grateful! I needed a refresher - and found your tutorial to be the best. You are a fantastic teacher! I've been sewing for almost 55 years and have not put in --invisible zippers in a long time and wow, I needed this! Thank you, again!
@Stylesewme4 жыл бұрын
Thanks, Deb. It is always so great for me to have someone with your sewing experience find value in my videos! I' have that invisible zipper foot that you mention. For some reason, I find that I can get my stitching closer to the teeth without using it. I'm sure I need to practice more because the feet are supposed to make things easier! I think I'd be more comfortable with it if I was able to see the needle strike - if that makes sense. Thanks for the added info!

I have been doing the same process up to the point where you have finished basting one side of the zipper to the seam allowance. I don't just baste. I sew it normally. I then close the zipper and sew the other zipper tape to the other seam allowance. Then I undo the seam basting and do the final sewing with the seam open. The sewing on the seam allowance keeps the zipper in the right place. I also find it easier if the zipper is a couple of centimetres longer than the desired opening. If there is a little bit of extra zipper hanging loose at the bottom, it is not a problem.

I have one and don't prefer it because I can't see the zipper and where my needle is striking. I've found I can get closer to the teeth for a more invisible finish when I can see where my needle strike it. I like to have more control.
