This is by far the BEST tutorial for this particular zippered pocket. I have watched others, and they left out a couple of key steps that just make a better project and a better look. Thank you.

I used this tutorial to make zippered pockets for the first time and everyone around me is suddenly 300% more impressed by my sewing skills. Also 3 people told me they learned this in 3rd year of fashion school and still struggle with it, so I now feel like a magician! Obviously a magician who shares their secrets, everyone needs to know about your great tutorials! TL;DR This tutorial is amazing, thank you so much!

I wanted to mention I've watched several of your videos (& am subscribed to your KZbin channel). YOUR work is fabulous!! Your instructions are consistently succinct and you explain the "why" behind the methods used. Your explanations enable new sewers to understand not only how to perform a step, but the why behind what they are doing. Thank you sincerely for your efforts and dedication to the world of sewing.

You're the greatest teacher! No other tutorials that I saw before I found yours included the understitching. That makes the edges after folding through so much sharper and neater. I'm sewing zippered pockets like a pro now. Thank you!

Thanks so much for this great tutorial! Just one quick question - what is the best way to avoid puckering on the outside of the fabric? In your tutorial, the puckers are on the inside, where they should be. For me, they always end up on the outside. I've tried so many different things. Is there a trick? Many thanks again!
@untraveled2 жыл бұрын
OMG my puckering was awful. I realized I hadn't cut all the way to the very itty bitty edge of the sewn line by the triangles. Then ironed the double hockey sticks out of it but it's still not lying as flat as in the tutorial. I wish there was some coverage of this issue in the video. The search for another tutorial continues! 😞

Hi, I have two questions. Why understitch since sewing the zipper will catch both layers? And also, for a bag, we usually use thick fusible fleece to stiffen the main fabric so wouldn't it be too thick ? Should we leave a window without interfacing? Thank you very much!

@ImGinaMarie Жыл бұрын
As always this is a great video however, add 2" from the length of the pocket because when you fold the pocket in half you don't have usable pocket space from the 1" space from the top of the pocket piece, or usable pocket space from the folded fabric placed at the top. This wasn't mentioned but perhaps figured in to the example given. See 9:12 timestamp

I wondered what that gold bar was near the top of the Spiegel sewing machine (not shown in this video). I just went to their website and learned that it is to hold a smartphone - great for watching Professor Pincushion videos while sewing a project such as this. That's a really nice sewing machine. But the link in your description is bad (as of the time of this writing). It reads, "Page not found."
@ProfessorPincushion8 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for letting us know! We fixed the link. Yes, I love that little holder. Not only is it great for watching tutorials right at the machine but I use it for when I want to watch netflix or listen to music or podcasts while I'm sewing and you can plug it right into the machine at the base for charging. So handy! :)

How can I do this so that the zipper doesn't have an exposed edge inside the pocket? I mean by sandwiching the zipper between the outer fabric and the pocket like you would for lining?
@hannahhooton28322 ай бұрын
This is my go-to video for pocket zippers. How do you stop the short sides of the pocket from bunching up? No matter how close I cut the triangle to the stitches, it always seems to bunch up when I push it through to the other side.

Thank you for this tutorial. I was wondering if the process is the same if the fabric of the main piece is faux leather? I know you are not supposed to use pins in the case of faux leather so I was also wondering how to "pin" the zipper under the opening so it doesn't move before/while you sew it on.

Thank you for this. I realized I need to top stitch which is a step I forgot. But I’d like to add that you shouldn’t start stitching around the box at the end; that stitching should start an inch away, such as that shown. This way, the short ends won’t pucker when you turn the pocket piece to the inside.

Great video. I put a zippered pocket to my purse lining. Another video I watched said to make the box (that you draw) 1 inch larger on each side of the zipper length. It made my zipper opening way too large! Thankfully, I had another zipper to use. And you made your box the same size as your zipper. I will definitely do the under stitching next time I make my zippered pocket. I made sure to bookmark your video for the next time I make another zipper pocket! One question: How do you know how tall to draw this box for the opening? I have different size of zippers (#3, #5 etc)..
@michellequehl36052 ай бұрын
I had the same question so I decided to practice a bit and decided whatever the width is that I want to see of the particular zipper. So if the teeth plus a bit of fabric is 1/2 inch that's what the opening width will be.

This video is very helpful. Is the under stitch the trick/secret to making the fabric lie flat? I've done a few zippered pockets and when the pocket fabric is pulled through the bag lining fabric, it always puckers. The fabric on the ends of the zippers is quite bulky. If this is the secret I will definitely try it for the next pocket I make! Thanks :)
