Did you make the top you are wearing in the video? It looks really nice.

Thanks so much for this! I had a shirred dress when I was a kid and I loved it, I’ve been wanting to make one. Mine didn’t have straps though, the shirring was tight enough that it never slipped. But I didn’t have my 2 girls then. I am small, underweight, so I think I can get away with having no straps. I will try making one and can add straps later. I would also add some lining in the bust area so I can wear it without a bra, or would doing that stop that area from stretching?

It would stop the stretch, but you could use a knit fabric for lining and that might work!

@@PinCutSew Thanks, I will make one out of a soft cotton and see how it looks, then decide to where a bra or not lol I think if I stitch every 1/2 or 1/4” I should be able to wear one without a bra.

I love this but have always been afraid of it. I never knew how much extra fabric I would need to do it... I would like to do shirring in the front of some shirts, but not all across the front. I have a shirt that only has a few inches of gathering in the front bust area and I love the look -but have no idea how to "figure" how much extra material is needed. Is there a secret trick or math formula?😮

Thanks for this video. I have made a couple of these using the pre-shirred material at Joann Fabrics. I was interested to know how you attached the straps to the dress, but that was not included. Could you please comment on that. Thanks.

Hi! I just finished the short raw edge of the straps, then tried the dress on to pin the straps where I wanted them. Then I used a straight stitch to attach them.

I liked your tutorial but you didn’t mention which measurements you used to make the whole dress bust waist or hips and did you ruffle right down to the waist

Hi! It’s been a little while, but I believe I used bust and hips (on me, they’re the same), so I’d use your largest measurement. And shir down as far as you like, trying it on to see. That part will be different for everyone depending on your preference.

HI this looks great - simpler than a lot Ive seen. You mentioned the fabric used needs to be 1.5 times your bust size but you then used 2 pieces of fabric (a back and a front). Do I cut 2 x pieces 1.5 times my bust size, or is each piece half of this? Im guessing the latter but I dont think you specified... thanks :-)
