Love your coasters and the way the stripey binding is at an angle. I usually make coasters for Xmas and slip inside a card. I want to try this method as they look really cute. I have a circle cutter but I would cut the fabric just like you did. A *great* tutorial - thanks Robin 🤩
@rsislandcraftsАй бұрын
Thanks Lesley. Maybe you could fold a circle in half and make a pocket on the back for a gift card. It should still be flat enough to use as a coaster afterwards.

Your coasters are so cute. My mom made us all circle coasters years ago. I guess I am funny because I use bias binding all the time. One of my first teachers pointed out that if you get a snag on a regular binding, it can run up the whole edge of your project but a bias binding will only go for a small bit because it will then be sewed down, so I have used bias ever since.
@rsislandcraftsАй бұрын
Thanks! I think that’s how It is for many things. When we learn a certain style or technique in the beginning we tend to stay with It even if we try different options. I like bias binding and will be using It on some of my projects going forward.

Greetings from So California, Robin! I hope you are safe and doing well since Hurricane Milton. This was a great video with plenty of good sewing tips. Thanks, and may God bless you and your family. Take care, and have a great weekend. Again, I hope you are okay in the aftermath of the hurricane. 🙏💖💖

Thank you. We are doing really well. We moved to Arizona in February. Our friends in Florida are doing well also. Such a relief but there are still many homes and businesses that didn’t do very well after two back to back hurricanes.

Very cute. I've been watching your videos for a few. years now, and I can see how much your sewing, and fabric choices have changed...in a VERY good way. Your sewing is so professional these days. Getting seams matched, your binding pucker free and even. Just overall, you've gotten so good at this. I need to catch up....😉☺

These are so cute and would make a great gift. Great idea for scrap busting. When I need to cut a circle I use a compass it's quick and easy to change the size. Most of our phones come with a calculator that has a pi symbol. 2 x pi x r is the same as pi x the diameter, so just enter the diameter and multiply it by the pi button. Easy Peasy.

I've never done a circle for mug rugs or coasters. I've done bias, but not in a long time. I guess it's time to play with it again. 😊😊 It's hard to make a coaster in a circle cause I think Wow there is no room for a cookie. 😂😂😂 Enjoy your Friday 😊😊

🤣 maybe your cookie can have its own circle coaster or mug rug 🍪🍪🍪

While I have not made circle coasters, I have made other items using circles, mostly witches hats. 😉 I have made and used both bias binding and straight WOF binding. I think that instead of a circle coaster, I will try a pill or stadium shaped mug rug that has a half circle shape on opposite sides of a rectangle. Instead of 3×3, I might start with 3×6. I like your idea of making a circle template from a DollarTree flexible cutting mat with two lines going through the center crossing at right angles. That would make it easier to draw the half circles on the two ends of the center rectangle.

I love hearing how creative people are after watching a video. Changing this and that or creating something else. It’s fun. Happy creating!! Changing up the shape would give you more room for a cup of coffee and a little treat.
@annataylor7226Ай бұрын
@rsislandcrafts I will have room for tea or hot chocolate and a treat. I leave the coffee for those people who actually enjoy it. For some reason my taste buds are extremely sensitive to something in coffee that I think tastes terrible. If it is due to a gene that I inherited, my daughter and grandchildren didn't inherent it as they all love the taste of coffee. 😆
@rsislandcraftsАй бұрын
I’m more of a fan of the things that go in coffee to make It taste better 🤣. I prefer herbal teas.
@annataylor7226Ай бұрын

@@annataylor7226 I do enjoy green tea. Sun tea is nice but it’s has to be decaf for me. We grew up on sun tea.

Very cute! Will these protect wood tables from wet condensation, do you think?
@rsislandcraftsАй бұрын
Cotton batting does absorb condensation. If your glass sweats a lot then maybe you’ll need to add two pieces of batting. Just in case. Some batting is thinner and some is thicker. I always suggest making a test model first. Then set It on the kitchen counter. Place a glass of ice water on It and see how It does. Good luck!
@juliescaparra2940Ай бұрын
So cute. How wide is the bias bidding, please?
@rsislandcraftsАй бұрын
I make my single fold binding 1.5” but you can make It any width that you prefer.
