Yesss, another long video ☺️ I think the self videoing worked really well. With that background I could see clearly what you were doing and how the shape of the tree changed. I also liked that you filmed the details when explaining what you were going to do before that. Great video and again nice trees. ☺️👍

agreed! I like the self-shot videos much better, actually. More stable. Less distracting camera movement.

Peter your commitment to educating the newbie and us old timers is outstanding with your self filming, i love it. You have more energy than myself and i'm only 67 myself. Your grandchildren's joyful noise ( i presume ) in the background is so enlightening. Thanks for all your years of self taught knowledge. By the # of subs the rest of the world agrees. You make it fun, enjoyable, easy to understand and confidence building to both ends of the experience level. Keep them coming as long as you can. And don't worry about any " critiques " of the quality of filming,,, you're doing a bang up job. With much respect, Steve, U.S.A..

Once you get the hang of keeping those bottom branches alive, larch can be very rewarding subjects. In prebonsai I like to let the main leader run to thicken the trunk, but cut the side branches of it down to 2 buds so they don't shade the bottom. Let the bottom branches run until they're thick enough. If you let those lower branches and buds die they are pretty useless since they don't back bud. Also had good success ground growing by bending the trunk parallel to the ground

Wonderful video, Peter. I'm a beginner in bonsai and larches are trees I love in nature and are hardy enough to survive I hope our Canadian winter on my NE balcony with rather harsh winds.Canada Your larches with S curves are beautiful and the suggestions you've given are extremely helpful. Stirring a pot, indeed! I'm drawn to the grace and beauty of S curves and I've been reading that one can start by contemplating what the tree itself wants to do. Since tamaracks in nature usually grow quite straight and you've used curves, how do I reconcile that seeming conflict. Can you give a little guidance to a novice on this? Can't wait to watch more. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.

Hey Peter, can you plant a finished bonsai in the field that you bought so that it grows more. And if you can what is the process to do this? Thank you!!
@peterchan31004 жыл бұрын
If you plant. a finished bonsai in the field - it will lose its shape and refinement because it will become too vigorous. Planting in the field is done mainly to thicken the trunk

Peter, I have a question about wiring. I have a couple trees that I wired about 3 months ago and noticed that the tree was already outgrowing it. The wire was starting to dig into the branches from growth. One is a thuja occidentalis and the other is a quercus alba. The branches stayed in place when I removed the wire but I hadn't planned on removing it this early. Was I doing something wrong with wiring or am I applying too much fertilizer and pushing them to grow too fast? Or could it be something else?

Is it not too late in the year to wire larch? I've found them to react badly to late wiring

Best not to leave wire on during the winter - if you do then protect from frost. I find that branches with wire on them in winter tend to die.

Hello,Peter chan can I use lead wire for wire my trees? So what wire type is good for bonsai
@h.b.14214 жыл бұрын
i wouldn't use lead as one it is too soft and pliable and two lead is poisenous. Best wires for bonsai are out of copper (harder to bend, but you can use thinner wire) or aluminium (easier to bend, but it has to be thicker to bend branches)
@peterchan31004 жыл бұрын
Can be poisonous for you - lead poisoning.
