as of 07/2024 you can install VMware tools on the guest windows arm by clicking "window" on the menubar while the guest is running, from there "install VMware tools". It enables copy paste and drag and drop from/to the host

You don't need to be on Bridged. VMWare Fusion will share over SMB perfectly fine via NAT.

I'm trying to share a folder from Mac to Windows 11 VM and it shows the Mac in Network but can't connect to it. Sharing from Windows to Mac works just fine.

For all those who have problems with the password, you have to go in windows settings/Networks & Internet/Advanced network settings/Advanced sharing settings/All Networks and once you are here, you have to turn off Password protected sharing. Next you have to connect from the Mac as a guest, so you don't have to insert the password 😉

Go to Start > Settings > Accounts > Your info. under Account Settings there should be a button that says something about local account (i don't recall the exact button because i already made the change) Then it will show a screen where you create a local account and choose a username and password. Those are the details you need to enter when entering the server from your mac

So, this is not at all like mounting a folder inside the VM, right? If I place one file to the shared folder on Mac, then an actual copy of it gets created on the Windows VM, right? So, in effect, there are two copies of the same file - one on the host file system and one on the guest file system. Correct me if I am wrong.

This is the shared folder method so it's just one folder shared between both environments.

Why the reverse is so bad. Try to run mac on windows vmware pro its slow as tortoise

because its not supported, but you can make it run flawlessly, with a lot of extra steps like editing the vmx files and changing lots of internal parameters, but you still will run into issues with icloud access etc and the only way around that is to use a proper solution for virtualizing macos with DOCKER-OSX, it will run much faster than it does even on native apple hardware, granted your machine is fairly powerful
