How to Share Save Data Across Multiple Switch Consoles | Switch Cloud Saves Tutorial

Do you own multiple Switch consoles? Perhaps a Switch and a Switch Lite? With a Nintendo Online Membership, you can back-up your save files (for most games) online. It's quick and simple!
Some games don't support cloud save, though - including Pokémon Sword & Shield! But there is a way around that - Save Transfers!

Found out the hard way that sword isn’t cloud saving. All my shinys, brilliant shinys and event Pokémon are gone forever and I’m pissed when I should be happy I got a new switch

Oh wow - what happened to your old Switch :( Sorry to hear! Nintendo definitely need to enable some sort of cloud save for Pokemon You can transfer from Switch to Switch but of course it's gutwrenching if you lose a Switch/it breaks or is stolen etc.

So, let’s say I want my friend to help me out in Tears of the Kingdom for one section. Would he be able to make a new user profile on his switch, log into my account, play TotK and then (hopefully) complete the section and overwrite my cloud save data so I can download it on my switch? Or would his own save file be compromised on his own user profile too? I just see the warning message for “the save data on THE CONSOLE will be overwritten” and now I’m confused. Will downloading your save data from the cloud delete all other users’ saves too?

Cloud saves are attached to each user, not the whole console - so if you did want a friend to help out, you’re right - they’d need to create an account as *you* on their switch, connect that account to your Nintendo account and download your save data It’ll only overwrite your account save on either Switch - not all the saves for everyone, I believe!

For some reason it doesn’t work with my digital games, I tried downloading from cloud and even manually sending but nothing I checked the eshop under “redownload” and I still can’t find it

Hey - do you mean cloud saves for digital/download games? That should work in the same way Redownload via the eShop is *not* for game saves, but just for the digital games themselves The saves would be handled in the same way as physical (if supported) - have a look at 1:30 onwards in the video to see how to use cloud saves

Wow, Nintendo does not make this easy. As a user without the online subscription, I would have to designate specific games to my OLED and my Lite? Is there a way I can seamlessly play the same game across both switches (I'm on the same user account for both consoles) without this headache?

My wife has a switch lite and has been playing Let’s Go Eevee. Just for fun it would be sweet to play on the TV sometimes as I have a regular switch. Can we upload her profile’s saved data to my switch? If so how? Thanks!

Hey Gambit! Yep yep, you can! Pokemon isn't supported by cloud saves, but you can transfer it from the Lite to the regular Switch :) kzbin.info/www/bejne/a6HRcmmCraqaldU We've got a video on just that! Essentially the save is transferred from Lite to Regular (make sure you have an account setup on the Regular first). After it's transferred, it's removed from the Lite, but you can transfer it back after - on a game by game basis :)

I have a question about the save data cloud. I have save data on Breath of the Wild on my new switch while I was waiting for my old switch to back up my save. Will the save data from my old switch appear on my new switch with my new switches own save data?

Hey! So that's a tricky one to be honest - From what I know it will (or should!) ask you which data you want on the console and if you want to overwrite it (if you see around 2:14) And congrats on your new Switch!

I know this video is pretty old, but I have a question: I have 2 different ACNH islands on two different switches (OLED and switch lite). They are both under the same account (mainly b/c of my Nintendo online subscription) The switch lite is my main switch. If I have 2 different ACNH islands going on will my cloud save data on the OLED override the main switch and vice versa or are they separate to the console? Ty in advance :)

Hey! Very good question and sadly one I don’t have the answer to I’m afraid / I have a similar situation and avoided enabling cloud saves on AC for that reason sadly! Emailed Nintendo about it a while back and got nothing back :/

Quick question 🙋‍♀️ f I use cloud saves to transfer let’s say Mario party with all data and I have the same on a sd card can I just get rid of the card once it’s on the systems memory

Good question! Yep so once the save is on the system memory, you should be able to remove the card :) I would test it first, though! As in transfer the save data to the system memory, power off the Switch, remove the SD card and then test :)

Yep! You need an account on both Switch consoles - then you'd be able to backup your save from console A, upload to the cloud, and then download it onto console B :) Have a watch of the video for steps - it's quite quick and is compataible with most (but not all) games Some games like Pokemon don't support cloud saves, so you'd need to do a save transfer instead: kzbin.info/www/bejne/a6HRcmmCraqaldU

So if I back up my data and my switch factor resets I’ll be able to leave off from where I cloud saved, if that makes sense

Yep - I believe so! It'll all be safe in the cloud (depending on the game!)

Good question - I believe the cloud save should still exist, you can then re-download it :) Not all games support cloud save, though (like Pokemon!)

I was playing Smash on my new Switch OLED, and then I wanted to play on my launch Switch but as I was playing, it didn’t show the spirits I had unlocked on the OLED. Do I need to download the save data every time I want to play on my launch Switch?

That's odd - so I assume you downloaded the cloud save on both consoles? E.g. you had all the characters unlocked on the OLED and original Switch? Some games support automatic cloud save downloads, Smash should be one of them!

I’ve just got a new switch, normally use a switch lite. I’ve just played a few hours of stardew valley which does support cloud data, saved and closed it on the switch. Then opened it on my switch lite and it’s not updated where I was? Why is this?

Hey Ella! As far as I know it's a little bit wonky - so for example: - Play on Switch 1, save - it updates to the cloud - When you play on Switch 2, you can grab the save file from the cloud - Save on Switch 2, it updates back to the cloud - I believe this is where there's an issue - because you're playing on different switches, the cloud save becomes out of date (doesn't make sense I know). You need to go into the Cloud Saves feature on the Lite and update it - it lets you choose which version to overrwite the local save data with

Hi Tina, good question! Hmm - it depends on the games themselves For example classic Zelda games like Link's Awakening would have 3 slots per user, so when you load the game, it would let you pick a save slot after the title screen for example When you cloud backup, it will take all those save slots and restore to Switch 2 I believe But if you've got two users playing separate accounts on the Switch (e.g. Jess and Lucy), they would need to be cloud backed-up separately I believe Confusing I know!

If you're playing BOTW on two different accounts, e.g. Tina 1 and Tina 2 - then it'll be two cloud saves I believe When you try to download a cloud-save it should prompt you if you've got different versions of a save file (e.g. which one you want to keep!) Hmm...got a tricky one... My wife plays animal crossing on my account because we hadn't made hers at the time. Well now we made a "second player" profile for...whoever. but now she kinda wants her own profile but doesn't want to start over. Is there any remedy for that?

Good question! If you have a secondary Switch, I believe you can "move" to another island - not 100% sure how it works! Bare in mind it's always 1 island per Switch, a second player profile would just be a second resident on that Switch's island! So on the original island I dumped items on the beach as original me, then launched the original island as my partner. Opened the gates and flew over from my *new* island as new me (confusing!) and collected the items

I've been playing local games like resident evil 4 using myolder brother's user file before I bought I bought my own nintendo switch, will it be possible for the save file to be saved under mine? He has the digital copy of it and I'm planning to buy the same game under my own user file and wondering if I can save it to the cloud afterwards? I hope i'm not too late to ask this

Hi Aimer - I'm not sure to be honest - from what I understand it's tied to your brother's user account, so when uploaded to the cloud it would still be under his account I believe!

You can re-download all your downloaded games (under the same user/Nintendo account) on as many new Switch consoles as you like :) Save data you would then download from the cloud OR transfer from the old Switch to the new. Some games don't support cloud saves - like Pokemon - so would need to be transferred - there is a way though! We've got another video for that too :)
