I have drilled over 1 million holes over 25 years in heat exchanger tube plates using a standard drill point of 118 degrees with no back relief or point thinning in 40mm 316SS. Speed and feed is everything. Drilled over 1700 3/4” holes in one plate without sharpening. You have mild steel flat bar here. Have drilled over 2500 holes non stop in 460 grade boiler plate. It’s all in the speeds and feeds and a good cutting fluid. But still, not to bad when sharpening with a angle grinder. Secret to drilling is to get the right surface speed and push it. No rubbing

Web thinning is used on short (ground down from sharpening) drills. No need to do it on a relatively new drill. Reason being, it's used for narrowing the chisel point so as to reduce the pressure when drilling holes.

Why cut the end off? Why not cool it while you're cutting/grinding? You know now you basically melted your edge on the drill bit you have ruined the temper and it will never hold a sharp edge for long 🤦 don't do this total waste of time and money
