Edit - My last two drawings have been essentially broken lead free. The last drawing I did have to modify my technique. Rather than using a "New" Faber Castell Trio Sharpener, I opted to go with a "free" crayola sharpener that comes with the 24 set of Crayola Pencils. The key to using these sharpeners is that you can actually see what is going on and slow things down or adjust the pressure if needed. Not sure if it is quality control, but my new Faber Castell Sharpener tends to bite into the Premiers and then don't sharpen as cleanly as the old one.

Thank you for all the suggestions you gave .I applaud your patience and tips. BTW do u order from Canada? You did mention that you bought prism pencils at about 50 cents a pencils using Canadian exchange. Where are you ordering your art supplies? Amazon.ca?I am wondering where is the best prices for other pencil sets oil, wax or water if you are ordering from a alternative location.?

Hey Peggy. All the Prismacolor pencils I buy I get from Amazon (Canada). If you are in the US, Amazon also has comparable prices when you factor in the exchange rate. For US residents Dickblick.com is also a great resource for online art supplies (often cheaper than Amazon). My Derwent Inktense pencils and blocks I have also bought on Amazon. These ones will go on sale once in a while and it is best to wait for a sale. For other brands, like Faber Castell, I usually shop the local art stores (Opus Arts or Deserres). Same thing for paper. I will wait till I see a sale on a paper I like, or one I want to try out, then I will stop by the shop and pick it up. I'd prefer to do all my shopping locally, but when Amazon has the same set for 30% less, it is hard to not go for that deal. Especially when you don't need to leave the house and delivery is usually quite quick. In the end it is best to compare prices from about 3 places, often you can save 20-50% on a set of pencils.

thanks for the prompt reply .I realize the exchange is partially the extra cost but if you do not use amazon prime as the case being one does not regularly or monthly shop ....the out of USA charge for delivery is a very high additional cost . Try and compare the difference when you live in Canada ...The names of locations where you shop and other locations from US that were mentioned by you ,are not located or available in Manitoba ,Canada .....limits us also .

Hey Peggy. I'm in BC, so I use Amazon Canada. I don't use prime, and use the no fee shipping, which still only takes a couple of days (it says 4-8 business days, but it is often less). For Prismacolor Premiers, right now you can get the 72 set for $38. 48 set for $27. Deserres is definitely worth comparing prices with. If I buy online from them they usually ship from Quebec, and it can take time (2 weeks). Those purchases I will only do when there is a sale 20% off or more and I will purchase enough product to qualify for free shipping. I recently purchased pastels, paints, paper, sharpener and Faber Castell singles from them. All at better prices than Amazon. Opus Arts is more of a local place. I don't think I have ever purchased online from them. Deserres also has a membership system where you save as a member and get points.
