How to Sharpen Sewing Scissors Dressmaker Shears | Good Scissors | Professional Sharpening
So many of you have asked about what I use to sharpen my dressmaker shears.
I use Scissor Pro Sharpener and in this video, I show you how I sharpen my own sewing scissors
Unfortunately, it is hard to get these right now- Why are they saying due to C-19? Not sure, but I hope this video helps anyways. If these links don't lead you anywhere, they are still sometimes available on ebay! :) Scrounge around some local vendor malls, etc and see if you can find one for your studio.
Also, not sure, you may be able to apply the same sharpening techniques to other brands of scissor sharpeners?

That's cool. I've never seen a home device like that. I get mine professionally sharpened locally every year or so, which is good enough for a hobby seamstress like me...but it would be a handy gadget to have for a professional, I'm sure!

Your machine is very good for the average home sewer or basic seamstress. I have it. It's quality is good. I also have a professional grade scissor grinder that I use for pretty much everything. I am a retired professional tailor. You have a great channel. Thanks for a fantastic video.

I send mine to a shop that specializes in sharpening all kinds of tools. I keep track of which scissor I send her and the date, to keep track so if one becomes dull, I know how long ago it was sharpen. It's a young lady who does this and she took the business over from a gentleman who retired. I even send her my rotary blades.

I know that you can get them sharpened professionally, so it is possible. No idea, how that works though, or if you can do it at home.

Cool video Branda! I think most of us had no idea that devices like this were available. I used to work in a studio with 25 people in staff and each time we would wait for this sharpening person to come. Now i realize how unpractical and extravagant it was! Expensive or not, i believe that this machine would pay for itself very soon. And you don't have to wait for anyone to come (and make tones of noise with their rotating sharpeners). Great! Thank you.

Oh, it would have paid for itself very quickly! My nearest *good* professional sharpener was 45 mins away and they kept my shears for a week. I just couldn't do it.

@@gee2891 It's an extreeemly sensitive mic, though. So, the whole room has to be set up just right. ASMR channels often use this kind of mic, it is so sensitive. So you have to do all the tricks. Cushion the walls, have rugs down, hvac turned off, no distant outdoor interruptions, etc.

@@gee2891 of course, anytime! Search my video on how to make Sweetheart Neckline. That audio was literally the worst of all of mine. I had to lay a dreadful track over it to cover the buzzing. Just awful. But, still... one of my highest watch time videos on my channel. Go figure. Lol

what do you do when they get Dirty at the Pivot point? Ginghers won’t come apart to clean there.

I rinse with oil. Really saturate it on a paper towel & let it soak overnight. Then flush with oil the next day & wipe clean.

And I'm guessing, that availability problems may be due to factories in China/India (or wherever these are produced) having been closed temporarily and parts not having been available. Or there may have been issues with transportation. Who knows? Everything is so wildly interconnected these days in manufacturing...

Once upon a time my mom's electric can opener used to have a sharpening stone in the back that when you turned the can opener on the stone would run and all you had to do is run your blades through it we never had a problem getting things sharpened and if we did there was a man who came around in a truck every week ringing his bell and he would come and stop and park and everybody would come out with their knives and scissors and It was just a grinding stone on the back of his truck This guy made money hand over fist. Today I can't sharpen my scissors to save my life and I looked up that machine and it's $85 ouch. I have a wet stone and no matter how many times I run my sisters across this thing they are still Dull dull dullll. I finally broke down and bought a new pair
