Hey bud the one sharpener you're showing in the video is specifically made for small hole punches but a rat-tail or chainsaw file will ruin the punches instantly. I just don't want people to try and blame you for something that you're only trying to help with. That small sharpener is 1 of 2 on the market made to do this job. I just want to help too. Take care.

Thanks, Ray! I could have sworn I've seen one that small at Home Depot before but I just looked and definitely didn't see one. Pinning this comment.

@@BlackFlagLeatherGoods best thing to do is tell people to purchase the sharpener and direct them to the description with a warning on how long it could take. I just got my sinabroks chisel punch. About to put it to work.

I set my sinabroks to the side because they needed replaced, I thought. Went back to the diamond chisels, which I never liked the look of. Just happened to run across this video. Man, what a lifesaver this was. I ran down to Harbor Freight and picked up a set of needle files. Now my Sinabroks are like new as well as all my other single hole punches. You have my subscription and my likes.

Awesom!!!! Thank you so much for this video. I was just asking buckleguy about sharpening the sinabroks. I can’t wait to sharpen mine. They need it. I was going to buy more teeth, but now I’m not.

I'm glad it helped! I linked the sharpener I got from etsy in the description. Pretty cheap and it works well. Thanks for watching!

@@BlackFlagLeatherGoods Yeah I saw a video on them they’re pretty nice, I didn’t want to spend a $100+ on one punch haha.

What's are your thoughts on diamond chisels versus punches for stitching leather? Do they have any advantages or disadvantages compared to each other or is this just aesthetic preference?

Tim: Do the individual prongs go into the holder and stop? I am concerned that if I take them out, they will not line up again after I put them back. I do know my own limitations with aligning things. My 1.2mm @ 5mm spacing Sinabroks is my go-to tool punch for .8mm and 1mm Ritza thread. So easy to sew.
@BlackFlagLeatherGoods2 жыл бұрын
When you pull them out, you'll see how to put them back. They can only go in so far and they have a round hole where the set screws secure them. I'm probably going to do an updated video on this one.

@@BlackFlagLeatherGoods The Sinabroks hole punches are my go-to for .8mm and 1mm Ritza 25 thread. So easy to sew. (Ha!) Using a John James 002 harness needle. Another confusing thing. Weaver has its own sizes. So does every online leather retailer in the world. I just stick with the JJ 004 and 002 needles. (not 0/2) Life should be simple.

Haha I don't understand needle sizes at all. I use John James 0/1... Not a clue what that means though

I was looking at getting the rotary tool bit to sharpen my punches (still waiting on delivery, wanted to get ahead of the game ;) ) but since I ordered 1mm punches I wasn't able to find a bit less than 1.5 mm. However, I do have bead reamers which do go down to 1mm so I may give those a try.

I have a friend that sharpens using his Dremel. I also recently came across these things which look really promising: www.artisanleathersupply.com/collections/tools/products/round-punch-sharpener Sold out right now, though.

@@BlackFlagLeatherGoods They do look interesting. I'll try to remember to revisit this when I try the reamer. (bead reamer - got it at a bead show for visiting their booth www.beadalon.com/products/240A-100.asp)
