Great educational video. I'm using DMT 8x3" diamond stones over a few years now, they work really well. Got the same experience as you,it's the way to go with diamond stones on powder metalurgical steels.

So I know it might sound boring but I have been using the Work Sharp precision adjust with a stabilizing block for a while now and it produces excellent results. I use a 400grit diamond, 600grit diamond, and a 800grit diamond. I use the 400 and 600 for two passes and then the 800 for three passes. I don’t use the ceramic hone cause it glasses the edge to much and robs the edge of its tackiness. The last pass I take with my 800 I do a burr removal pass. I then take the blade to the strop where I have a 2 sided Bacher strop with white compound on the fuzzy side and extra fine red compound on the hard side. This system seems to produce hair popping sharp knives every time. And I’m certainly not hating on hand sharpening, just a brief example of what seems to work for me.

How cool I come across this as I’m in the middle of sharpening a few of my own Sebenzas! A 600 grit stone and some lapping films for stropping give me a useful edge, for me at least

I've been watching your videos on the tv and hadn't signed in so didn't subscribe, I just did so. Been watching for quite some time though. "Going against Cliff Stamp or something ridiculous" hit me hard. I was lucky enough to be his brother for almost 40 years before he passed. "There are so many ways to achieve different edges so don't get discouraged" something he himself would have said. Cliff would have approved (sharpened on a brick). Keep up the videos, loving the content. No bullshit, well rounded and you use the fuckin knives!!!. I couldn't watch another video of the cookie cutter "I handled this kniife for approximately 18.4 seconds...and man I'm so happy with it. Greatest knife I've ever handled." Keep the no bullshit approach, use your knives and keep giving your honest opinion. You fuckin rock!! Wish cliff was around to see your videos. Use your shit!!!! 🤘🤘🤘🤘Your awesome!

You always have a good explanation and demonstration of sharpening. Plus showing that getting through a (maybe) burnt edge on any knife is viable. Knives are sharp enough Erica, but cutting through 12 to 17 inches of snow (still coming down) will not make a difference. Itchy boots even had snow in Morocco. No going outside for me, will try to shovel out tomorrow, everyone having hard time with where to put it. Have you handled any Les George knives? Pup's wore out again, no barking or tail wagging!

Thanks and great work! I agree with your assertion about learning to draw the blade toward you with BOTH hands - I'm still working on my left - it takes much time and patience to teach the non-dominant hand. You need more arm hair like big brown 🐻. 😏

I just got gunny juice, trying to figure out bow to best use it. I'm having trouble removing the burr on my new strops. I can do it on my old ones fine though. I keep folding it back and forth. Should I try balsa wood to chop off the burr.

When you say a little soap, just how much? Also, what angle are you sharpening this knife? Do you use the same angle for strapping? Thank you for the video.

Just a dash! Using the factory angle which I would guess is 20ish degrees. I use the same for stropping. Thanks for watching and commenting! ❤

I don't have the balls to try freehand on my chris reeve knives lol I messed up to many so I normally do them on my jende jigs v1. I do really want to learn freehand though just need to put in the time

I bought the 4 stone 6" DMT set. I tried to sharpen my Buck 110. I didn't do something right because it won't even cut paper 😒

I'm surprised at the acute angle at which you run the blade over the stone. I'm more inclined to use an angle that leaves a scratch pattern on the blade that is nearly perpendicular to the apex. I'll have to experiment with your method.
