One of the best sharpening systems on the market is the Razor Sharp Edgemaking System. These wheels are used to sharpen knives, carving tools (including v-tool and gouges), broadheads, scissors, and almost any other tool that needs an incredibly sharp edge. In this video you will learn how to use the Razer Sharp Edgemaking system especially how to sharpen wood carving tools.

Years ago I wanted something visual to show me what 22° looked like to help me align a knife blade to a stone. I figured this out. Take a piece of copy paper, any paper. Think of the flat piece of paper as 360°. Fold it vertically in half and you have 180°. Fold it horizontally and you have 90°. Then fold once from the 90° to make 45° and again to make 22-1/2°. There's your visual.

2 questions. Does this heat the edge up and soften the edge? Does this work on harder steels that are harder to sharpen, that I would typically use diamond plates on?

Good questions. As long as you keep the blades moving and not pause too long, it should not heat up the edge and cause the metal to loose its temper. The grit wheel is made with silicon carbide and does very well with harder metals.

Looks awesome! How thick is the wheel itself? Is it 1 inch thick?

This system comes with 3/4" thick wheels.

You're completely opposite of what ALL other Razor Sharp demo's are performed! They have the motor turn around where the wheel turns AWAY from you, plus they put the finish wheel on their left. Why do you set yours up opposite of all others, does it make a difference?

Hi Jon. Great comment. You are absolutely correct in that many people do turn their grinders around and sharpen their tools on the top of the wheel. This method works very well, especially with longer kitchen knives. The manufacturer recommends to have the wheels turning towards you and that is why we demonstrate it this way in the video and both methods work very well. Just be sure you know which direction the wheels are spinning so you don't catch an edge and hurt yourself or the wheel.

Nice demonstration. I like the system overall, but the grit did not last very long for me. It does sharpen well and has a low learning curve.

Thank you for your feedback! Be sure to use plenty of the wax to help lubricate the wheel. The kit does come with extra grit to allow you to recoat several times. If you ever run out, please let us know. Thanks again!

How to recoat the grinding wheel? Do you have a video?

No video on this yet. It is easy though. Wrap a coarse piece of sandpaper around a block of wood, turn the grinder on, and sand off all the wax and grit until you get to the bare cardboard. Slowly turn the wheel by hand, put a bead of wood glue (like Elmers or Titebond), down the center of the wheel, and with your finger, spread the glue evenly across the entire surface of the wheel. Put a piece of paper under the wheel (to catch any excess that drops), and while turning the wheel by hand, sprinkle the new grit until it evenly coats the wheel. Let it dry completely and apply new wax. That's it! Feel free to give us a call if you have any questions.

I looked through your videos and didn't see this, so I'd like to know if the Razor Sharp Edgemaking System can be used on Axes and Hatchets. Also other heavier tools like a Mattock and things like that. Thanks

Yes! This system can be used with larger blades. The grit wheel has 180 grit on it and it is diluted a little with the wax. It there is a lot of metal that needs to be removed, you may consider using a more abrasive wheel first and then moving to the Razor Sharp system.

@@treelineusa Thank you! Using a knife and axe sharpener (or a dedicated axe sharpener) with a ceramic sharpening system in a block container (or something like that) first was my precise thought. Get a dull or damaged edge prepared with that and then move on to the Razor Sharp Edgemaking System. Then maintain the axe with the Razor Sharp Edgemaking System regularly, as needed. Thanks again.

Can you use the polishing wheel as a strop, or do you have to use the grit wheel every time?
@treelineusa
@treelineusa Жыл бұрын
Absolutely! Once you get your tool sharp, you can just use the polishing side to strop/maintain the edge.
