why not sharpen with grinder while blade is still on mower?
@papawsplace6 ай бұрын
1: you never know if your blades are balanced 2: I can take them off and do a much better job and faster. 3: I can inspect my blades for other damage while I got them off. 4: That just doesn't make good since to me. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 But thanks for that question friend.

What you you mean by a swamper. A swamper to me is an employee that works under a equipment operator on a construction job or someone on an off shore oil rig.

Love your video, especially your comments. Obviously you have been doing this a long time and have learned from your experience and your mistakes. Regarding blade wear, especially the rounding of the corners and the effect of leaving a "rooster tail" strip between the blades. Have you ever known blades to wear and actually get shorter? I measure the length of my blades after removing them and get, say, 16.15". Then when I try to find the proper replacement blade, the manual says it should be, say, 16.45". Hard to believe they could shorten that much from wear. The corners are also rounded a bit, and the rooster tails can be pretty bad where the blades overlap. Any comments?
@papawsplace8 ай бұрын
First I want to say thank you for viewing and commenting. As per blade length, They will wear short over time but I believe the biggest issue is blades now-a-days are built to the specs. Meaning you could buy 3 sets of new blades and all 3 could be, 1/16" difference. But yes the rounded corners is the biggest issue.

There's more to shapening lawn mower blades than just running a grinder across it, you have to balance each blade by removing equal amounts of metal from each end, so you don't ruin your spindle bearings
@papawsplace2 жыл бұрын
Things don't have to be so complicated my-friend. But I will say a person needs to have common sense and not grind one end down more than the other. Maybe I should have mentioned that. 😉

I really appreciate this reply. I've never balanced a blade in my life, but I should have mentioned to not take off more on one end than the other. I know what you're saying but somethings in these times we are living in has over complicated things. Thanks again and God Bless!

I recommend having 2 sets of blades. When the set on mower needs to be sharpened, simply swap sets. Then sharpen the dull set to be ready for the next swap.

New subscriber here. I am trying to remove my Bad Boy MZ Magnum 54”. One guy at the dealer mentioned they were reverse threaded. They aren’t budging with a 3’ breaker bar. Was this blade you removed as easy the first time? I have anti seize for when I mount the blades again. Any help you can provide this country hobby mechanic would be appreciated. All the best! Good video.

Thank you for the Sub. I've always used an impact wrench but they shouldn't be that tight. I have never had a lawn mower with lefthanded threads on the blade myself. Righty Tighty - Lefty Lucy when you are looking up at the bolt from the ground.

@@papawsplace thanks. I used a Ryobi impact wrench I purchased today and it came off after two hits. I was amazed. As I loosened the first one I realized I needed to crank the mower up higher.
