Terrific review, especially for your first time. Consider adding subtitles for the entire video for those who don't speak English as their first language. Your diction and pace of speaking is perfect for us to understand despite your accent. Adding a before and after view of grass that has been cut and your opinion of the performance would turn this very good review into an excellent one. You're leading the charge for all of us who prefer to DIY.

I have been searching for something like this for 2 years. My Gardena C400 mower can barely cut air anymore. And the grinding paste is something I have nto wanted to try. You should get full endorsment for this. basically the only video I've found that showcased this. Thanks a lot! I just ordered mine from Amazon to try.

I think you did a fantastic job presenting the product explaining it and showing how to attach it and then the text that came up through it but you did it for about 5 minutes then you lowered it and perhaps it could have been a little bit shorter and more condensed getting to the point of attaching it to the more I was sort of saying myself to the video come on put the thing on already but other than that I think you did a fantastic job the only other thing I would say is if there was an opportunity to take the more out and actually cut some lawn with it to show whether your statement of you expect to get a really good cut with it came true could have possibly been added and just sort of time lapsed you probably would have only taken you a couple of minutes more and would have been worth seeing but overall I still got to say you did an absolutely fantastic job in presenting the product and the description and the purpose and the method

Will this sharpener work on my 18” manual reel mower ?
@kareno86342 жыл бұрын
You said blades will Run "Backwards". Is there a 'Reverse' with engine on and running ? just wondering. Looks Nice! I have [60's?] Craftsman Push Reel Mower that has Different 'setup' of Bolts, have NOT found way to Adjust Bar.
@Milnero2 жыл бұрын
You add the sharpener to the lower bed knife and whichever direction your blades spin when you push the mower will sharpen the blades with the tool attached. Usually the bed knife has only one fixed position as you adjust the height of the cutting reel instead. Hope that helps and thank you for watching the video.

Good review pal, any ideas on how to sharpen bottom blade. Was thinking of using the multi Sharpe then back lapping maybe. Any thoughts
@Milnero4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the like and sub, I found lots of none OEM bottom blades for sale on ebay for most mowers extremely cheap and well made, you could always put the bottom blade into a vice and use file just have to make sure you get the angle right. I tried backlapping using a product called Chemico it certainly worked to sharpen the top and bottom blade but was very messy which is my only complaint, if you do give backlapping ago be careful I snapped one of the cogs and had to order a replacement part.

You could buy two of the 12" lengths to make up your required width or buy just one and do half at a time, here's the link. amzn.to/3INp0qF

Do you need to run the mower in reverse to sharpen the blades?
@Milnero4 жыл бұрын
No not needed, just fit the sharpener to the bed knife and start the mower. If your using a push mower then just push the mower around, no need to spin the blades backwards

Just curious - if needing something like this for a larger (read 'wider') mower, might you know of a wider brand, or purchase two of the shorter ones and "trim" them to fit ? Your Thoughts? Excellent video, thank you.

I think they come in two sizes, trimming down two smaller ones might work but having not tried it I can't guarantee your results, best of luck with whatever you decide

How do you grind a relief into the trailing-edge of the blades?
@Milnero3 жыл бұрын
If by trailing edge you're referring to the bed knife, this sharpener will not sharpen that part of the mower and is only suitable for sharpening the reel, I would remove the bed knife and hand file it.

You are spinning the reel the wrong way… need to run the reel backwards with a drill and adapter or a back lap motor.
@Milnero3 жыл бұрын
Not needed with this method. As the blades spin in the direction of the cut the blades make contact with the sharpener, it works well.
@Frz453 жыл бұрын
@@Milnero It is indeed needed with any method, you would see far better results by spinning in reverse. Going forward is an easy way to remove imperfections to the cutting edge, but to create a proper cutting edge, reverse is the only way to do it. Grinding lathes would run the reel forward otherwise. Apologies for being a keyboard warrior. But I have been a turf machinery engineer for 12 years haha.
@Milnero3 жыл бұрын
Appreciate your comments and don't think of yourself as a keyboard warrior! Nothing wrong with knowing your craft. The item does work as a sharpener but I know it wouldn't be a complete replacement for a machined method.

@@Milnero Here there is nothing to knock bed knife mounted units, Ive seen some very good jobs done buy them, i have a vintage oil stone set somewhere, not everyone has access to reel grinders nor do they want to fork out what some charge for the service, perfectly acceptable method for the diy!

@@Frz45 I know someone who’s been sharpening reels for the majority of their life. They started when they were 13 & now in their 60’s. He said backlapping is the worst thing one could do to their reel mower. He’s sharpened reel mowers for courses hosting PGA events, so I’d say he’s pretty knowledgeable.

“Reel too much” not “reel to much”. Sorry buddy!
@s19143 жыл бұрын
Total waste of money. Cylinder grinding is a hard aggressive process, a bit of sandpaper isn’t going to touch it. Also the bottom blade is critical to the process, as far as I can see this doesn’t do anything to the bottom blade. Money far better spent getting someone to do it properly, well if you want to get your machine working the best it can do at any rate
