Love ur vids! I got a new bed knife online, does it need to be ground or can I use it straight out the box and do a back lap?
@rustyinspirations Жыл бұрын
G’day Michael 😃, I wouldn’t recommend it. Both the reel and bed knife need to be ground as a set and with the bed knife bolted to the sole plate.

@@rustyinspirations legend thanks for the advice. I’ll get a new reel and send it all in at the same time. Cheers mate

@@michaelcataldo1651. Good stuff 😃. I was going to try and explain the reason behind it in this reply but there was way to much to write. Perhaps I’ll cover it in a near future video 😃👍🏻

The adjustment threads do my head in. It's like I'm learning it for the first time whenever I need to get in there and adjust it. When you get it spot on though.... That scissor cut is bloody satisfying.

You covered everything I need to know. I just got one of these mowers as a hobby and this is really good information. As far as how to sharping blades, each person needs to find their own way / use what works for you . If there's 10 ways to do something ..... Pick one 🙂🙂🙂

How does back lapping actually sharpen it, is it just the contact with the grit paste that causes friction
@rustyinspirations12 күн бұрын
Correct , it removes material from both the reel and bed knife. Keep in mind this is only recommended for maintaining a sharp edge 😃👍🏻

Gday mate. Thank you very much 😃. I really appreciate your feed back. Are you going to buy a backlapper or a cylinder mower?
@thepracticalhowtohomebrewman Жыл бұрын
@@rustyinspirations cylinder mower. Just put down new seed and leveled out a bit of a putting green. Currently have an ozito thats been modified to have 2x rollers no wheels haha only cuts to about 7-8mm after a real reel mower next 💪😜🤙

Hi nice video, you have inspired me to buy a drill press and convert it to a back lapping machine! When you first built the machine, it looked as though it was running a little fast even on the lowest speed (I think you even mentioned it in the video) In this video it looks to be running slower, have you modified the machine? if so how? Thanks.
@rustyinspirations8 ай бұрын
G’day mate, I believe it's an allusion on video that makes it appear a different speed. Yes I't does spin a little faster than I'd like. Iv resently got some stuff to modify it and slow it down. I'll do a video of it at some stage 😃👍🏻

How much reel to bed knife contact do you need when backlapping?
@rustyinspirations Жыл бұрын
Alex, how are ya mate😃 minimal and you want it as Evan from Side to side as possible. You’ll know when it’s to much because there will be to much resistance between the two and it will be very difficult to spin or possibly lock up once you apply the past. I hope this made sense 😃👍🏻
@alexsallery Жыл бұрын
@@rustyinspirations yeah mate makes perfect sense! I'll just set it so you can just audibly hear it touch when spinning

Is that kind of mower worth the time and money?
@rustyinspirations10 ай бұрын
Great question 😃, I actually want to do a video on this matter. In My opinion for a lot of people no it's probably not worth the time. It's definitely time consuming. However if you are someone that might get joy out of the extra mantanance aswell as the mowing. Than maybe it might me right for you.
