In this video I demonstrate 5 steps to effective shaving, and shave my awesome beard for you, the viewers!
If you don't want to watch the video or just need a reminder, the steps are as follows.
1: Wash your face to get dead skin/oils off.
2: Apply a shaving cream or gel to help soften the skin and hair.
3: Shave the direction that the hair grows using smooth, light strokes.
4: Rinse your blade so it doesn't get clogged.
5: Store your blade in a dry place so it doesn't grow bacteria or rust.

Gotta say, although I do have a dad, I have a lot of respect for what you do on your channel. There are millions of kids without a father figure and doing things as simple as this could have a significant impact on their lives. That is so nice of you. You sound like such a good mother. My dad is alive and well, but he doesn’t live with us, so the first time i wanted to shave i asked my mom. She basically just got mad at me for asking and not figuring out myself. Everytime i try to learn “adult” stuff, like cooking, driving, money management... and go ask her for help she treats every minute of it like it’s a waste of time. So i normally need to try to teach these things to myself or find someone else who can. This has made me feel very lost and alone through my transition to adulthood. I wish i had a more supportive mom.

Good demo, and you're right, 5 blades vs 3 makes no noticeable difference if you use them correctly; however, I find that additional single blade on the flip side of a 5-blade razor is very handy for reaching tight corners like the upper lip under the nose.

Thanks, Josh... I had spine surgery and had not used a wet razor in maybe 50yrs?! (old Norelco rechargeable every day) After a week of wearing a neck brace, the hair was way too long to long to buzz off. I "knew how to do this", but I needed a bit of a reminder. The only thing I would add; keep the face wet. I went at it perhaps a bit slow and the Walmart shaving cream tended to dry out too quickly for a first-timer. Perhaps the gel would be better... I clicked on yours because I was a WW2 baby without a dad. I was 2 before we stopped Hilter. Cheers. Jim

I am a practitioner of "traditional wet shaving". You know, that type of shaving that uses "Grandpa's Old Double Edge Safety Razor" with all the bells and whistles( brush, shaving bowl, shaving soap that has to be made with the brush, pre shave oil and etc) and I must say I was curious about how you were going to go about instructing novices. In my opinion, you did exceptionally well. No, you did not do the "traditional shave thing" but that's okay since the vast majority of guys watching this will not be going that route either and most likely would not be interested, at least at this stage. And I am not a shaving snob who thinks my way is the only or best way. Fact is; I had to teach myself to shave since I didn't have a father figure and this video would have been very welcome back then, So, I double applaud you!

One of my main goals in life is to be the best parent I can be.
