Explore all of Loch Kelly's practices and teachings on the Mindful Glimpses app, found at lochkelly.org/mindful-glimpses. This innovative meditation and wellness app offers daily micro-meditations, step by step programs, and simple-yet-advanced tools for awakening.
In this video of glimpse practices from his book, Shift Into Freedom, Loch shows us some ways to immediately shift out of our chattering mind and into open-hearted awareness. We learn to unhook awareness from the "thinker" and come back to our senses, ending in our heart space. This heart space is not the physical heart, not the emotional heart, nor the heart chakra, but instead is the heart mind which can become a new spacious, loving way of knowing and being.
Loch Kelly is the creator of the Mindful Glimpses app, award winning author, psychotherapist, and meditation teacher known for his unique practical methods that support awakening as the next natural stage of human development. Backed by modern neuroscience and psychology, Loch introduces Effortless Mindfulness, an ancient form of nondual meditation that allows immediate access to our embodied awake nature which arises as calm, clarity, and compassion.

I started doing this shift from head to heart 6 months ago and now I am able to access this heart centered awakeness and see from the eyes of the heart. It allows me to live in the flow with loving intelligence! My life is better than I ever dreamed it could be! Thanks so much Loch.

I experienced what is the me, when i was doing this practice. I unhook awareness from thinker to seeing and after to hearing. And after to space. I felt like i am the space where everything happens. It was some noise from the street, and i felt the difference, when the me was there, and where the me was not there. When it was a me, that noise bothered me, and when it was no me, that noise just happened in space, it doesnt bother "me". I could clearly feel, that we all have a me, what changes everything, the bothered 'me' what didnt like the noise. I shifted between these 2 stages. Unfortunately i saw it only for a few seconds. But i saw it! I know now, that me has to disappear. Unfortunately a tried another time, i could not make it anymore. But what i saw, that disturbing 'me'. i will know now forever that me makes the difference. Thank you Loch Kelly 😀💗

In my opinion he is the best meditation? teacher on this planet, I place a question mark after the word meditation as his way of teaching goes well beyond the traditional way of meditation, no philosophy or long arduous retreats but direct glimpses of our true nature of being here & now!! A deep hearten thank you for your work and your app.

kia ora from Aotearoa Loch, I was introduced to your practice through Derek Scott and IFSCA. I wanted to share my deep appreciation for your work and resources you share. Through your meditations I have become aware of an attentive part that my awareness operated from and this was fatiguing to some degree in my practice. Expanding from this into open heart awareness allows me to see so much more, and be with so much more. Arohanui, Glen

I find this so helpful, especially when you talk about taking off the hood, the description of the mind as the thinker and the mini me and the moving awareness down to jaw, throat and then heart, and also the seeing and then hearing etc. Just wonderfully clear!! Thank you !!

I used to be a fisherman and would spend hours in an attentive state but zoned out watching the float, the rippling water, and with senses fully alert but without mental chatter. Hours would pass in great peace. I would love to recapture this state without hunting fish (which I won't do anymore). Even after decades of transcendental meditation I am in the head when out of meditation. Good I found this, I am getting it - out of the skull into the body.

Relax. The purpose of sitting completely still in zen is that the body responds by arising sensations in random parts of the body. Relax and observe the randomness and movements of these sensations. Relax and notice the abstract medium that 'contains' the sensation, gives you reference to feeling these sensations.This is "local access". Relax. These are not physical or nervous sensations, but they are certainly real, aren't they? There is no problem to solve, so Relax. Then return your attention to the breath at the nostrils, and then conduct your focus down your neck, sweeping all body parts down to the waist. Then envelop the heart area. Relax. Not the physical heart but the heart you feel in local access. Do not concentrate, just notice. When you notice periods where you notice no thinking, this is what the zen types call 'no-thought'. Relax. You are looking for what you have had your entire life, but society conditions and seduces you away from your 'original nature', for purposes of serving society. You may read the first half of "The Method of No Method". What Kelly calls 'space', that book calls 'fifth jhana'. Do not worry about 'following breath' in a sustained manner, because this is only a device to turn away from 'thinking' and enter the local access. We are not doing anapana here.

A week or so ago I had the experience I believe he is talking about. After the meditation, I was just really still and quiet and unrelated to anything I could do, like it wasn't me doing it, I felt something move down my neck and stop around the chest and then "open up" in my chest, energy- a warmth and feeling like I was expanding in that area. It was there for maybe 10-15 seconds. It sounds to me this is what he's talking about, but it hasn't happened since. I was feeling it happen to me, but I don't understand why he's saying that's Awareness moving, it just felt like energy in the body - very pleasant to experience - but I don't understand why that is Awareness.

Is there any advice for those who are unable to follow any of these instructions? My mind perceives your suggestions mostly as nonsense. I just don't understand what do you want me to do. Can it be that words are useless for my type of mind? Should I bang my head on a wall? Should I force myself more violently to "let the awareness unhook"? Or should I give up and stop trying at all?

I think the mini me can simply visualize all of this that you are saying about moving awareness and never really unhook from anything but just imagine that it is doing all of this.
@LochKelly
@LochKelly 4 жыл бұрын
Yes, it is possible to visualize this on the screen of your mind. And it is possible to dis-identify with the visualizer and have local awareness drop down and feel your throat directly from within your throat and then have that local globe of knowing awareness move down into your heart space and be aware from your heart space. give it a try. It is unique form of consciousness not taught in school but thousands of people say it is learnable with a few tries. Enjoy!
@sanekabc
@sanekabc 4 жыл бұрын
@@LochKelly But who is directing this movement of awareness?
@LochKelly
@LochKelly 4 жыл бұрын
@@sanekabc This is the question that reveals the uniqueness of effortless mindfulness as a direct approach. It is not the small self "doer", the mind, the meditator, the personality, the will or even attention. The premise is that awakeness we seek is already here within us, in the background. So the invitation is for that awake awareness to come forth, not as a passive pure awareness, but as a living awake consciousness that is the essence of who we are and from where we can move and live. So awake awareness moves itself, unhooking from its current identification with a thinker. The feeling is that awake awareness moves from the ego center down to be aware of your throat directly from within your throat, so subject and object are nondual. Then you will feel an invisible bubble of awareness move down behind and below your emotional heart so there is an awareness of the open space of you Heart Mind and awareness from your Heart Mind. This is like looking out of the eyes of your Heart, returning home to your Heart while files from the office of your head can come down by wifi. Just play with this new approach with beginners mind. Start again with curiosity and don't go back to your thinking mind for a second opinion on whether it feels like it is real. Notice the natural qualities that arise and enjoy.
@sanekabc

@@LochKelly Thank you for your thoughtful response.
@sanekabc

@@LochKelly Yet, once that non-dual awareness emerges, what more is there? Anything more is the domain of lack. Once you start playing with it and moving it around form here to there you are simply back into some kind of ego control.

Is he talking about awareness or attention moving?
@LochKelly
@LochKelly 7 жыл бұрын
Good question. I make an important distinction between awareness and attention. This is about learning how to move local awareness. I go into specifics about how to do this in both my book and audio: amzn.to/2aBddMv
@QED_
@QED_ 7 жыл бұрын
Yes, very important difference. Moving attention has a subtle contraction of awareness associated with it. That contraction can be experienced and understood as the creation of a "self" that is doing the attending . . .
@LochKelly
@LochKelly 7 жыл бұрын
awareness...this is the key: that awareness is different than attention. Attention looks from head to body. You can feel the difference when local awareness moves from location in your head and moves down, then feels and knows from within your body.

How about if awareness is pure quality (no matter good or bad) and the attention indeed connected to the memory is an active agent of intention.
