She left out the most important tip for shifting a mid-drive e-bike: do not shift under power!!! Stop pedaling or let off the throttle, and when you feel the motor stop, in the instant after that, THEN shift. This goes for regular, unpowered bikes too. The whole thing about mid-drives wearing out chains and rear cogs can be totally avoided by simply shifting properly.

Hello, I have been riding my flatlander for about a week now, all within the city. I have been keeping the bike in 9th gear/4x and using the throttle to speed up until I am moving fast enough to start pedaling. Also I feather the throttle when going up hills or wanting to gain some speed on straightaways. The reason I have been doing this was just to be able to transition quicker instead of having to down shift every time I have to slow down for a light or intersection. So my question is am I hurting the motor when I do this?

no. Hub motors are designed to use the throttle more often then a mid drive motor.

How about going downhill trying not to use the brake much. Do I shift down to 1? How about the pedal assist mode? Should I have it in 0 or in something else going downhill? Thanks

Shifting down while going downhill will not slow you down. Only the brakes will. You do not need to have the pedal assist in 0 while going downhill also.

nice to show the gears and explain people need to know you can shift when the chain is moving. shifting the lever while still is not so good on a pedal bike.
