How To Shim A Casement Window

Question, I am feeling my frame for the window may be slightly racked due to settling of house over 30+ years. This is in a room that is never used and yes, I now understand I should have actioned these open, lubricated them and kept an eye on them. Darn. But now, what method would be my best course of repairing for that slight out of square condition ? And, thanks for your consideration to my question 😊

I recommend having a local window service tech come out and take a look at your windows to see what could be done.

What does a shim do?

When your Hurd casement window sash is dragging and will not pull in all the way the shim can be used for the old style hinges that are non adjustable to lift the corner of the sash so it no longer drags.

@@RRWindowsandDoorsDenver By drag do you mean that the bottom shoes slide from the corner okay but gets tight and stuck as moving towards center of the hinge channel when fully opening?

@@Tko_Seven the Drag comes from the bottom outer corner of the window sash and it drags or hits the window frame when closing so the window sash will not come fully shut and can not be locked. This shim once installed lifts up that outer corner so it no longer drags. What your describing the shims will not help you.
