The intensity of the scene demands the frame rate. It's not that you have to shoot in high frame rate all the time. Planning the script in a detailed way, with visual movement will give a clear idea for fixing the frame rate.

It's great to see how the cheesy real-life setups look so epic in the final edit. I say this, not to bash the real-life setups, but to highlight that the direction you take the edit (sound design, pacing, etc...) have more to do with the feeling of the end result than the raw takes do. Thanks for sharing the BTS on this.

Parker I've got a doubt. I've heard that your shutter needs to be always double the frame rate. Right? But you were shooting 120fps but I noticed your shutter being 1/500. What's the reason?
@tomleefilms
@tomleefilms 6 жыл бұрын
the shutter would usually be like you said, double the frame rate, but in this case because the video is quite intense and almost action like, i'm guessing he decided to go higher so you get less motion blur giving it that more intense feeling.
@smaranalva
@smaranalva 6 жыл бұрын
Oh i see. So it's not a technical reason?
@tomleefilms
@tomleefilms 6 жыл бұрын
no not a technical reason, just purely a choice he made to fit the style of video :-)
@GustavoMendozaCanales
@GustavoMendozaCanales 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the explanation. I would have thought that the 1/500 was to compensate the 1.4 aperture, and not to over expose the shot.
@Andrelas11
@Andrelas11 6 жыл бұрын
Shutter should not be used to expose a shot unless its the absolute only thing you have to use. If you want to shoot at 1.4 but it is too bright then get an ND filter, don't change the shutter. Changing shutter from the norm is actually doing something technical to achieve a specific effect. A higher shutter in the instance of this video does provide for crisper images, but its also good for seeing little particles such as the dust and crumbles that are bouncing around since you are taking a faster "snap shot" and those little pieces are not given time to blur. You can really see the difference when you shoot water. Higher shutters let you see each little drop of a splash where lower shutters give you a more continuous flow since it is blurring.
