I enjoyed the final setpiece in Children of Men the most. I believe it's my favorite oner so far. The execution was almost flawless, breathtaking, and tense and everytime I rewatch it I manage to notice more worldbuilding details than before. This is also why I loved this movie, because it kept expanding it's own universe even close to the end, signifying that the story doesn't end there but only Theo's arc does.

That...was...amazing Love Children of Men, but your analysis surpassed the oner… You don't have occasional awkward pauses. Pull my finger...

This is truly a remarkable film, and this breakdown makes me appreciate it even more! This shot is incredible, and so is the extreme long take that makes up the climax of the movie.

I love your content, you have a very good taste for movies, I was drawn by your video on BR 2049, I've seen that movie 4 times already and it's a masterpiece, could you consider doing an analysis on the german movie, "The lives of others" some time in the future? I believe it is one of the best foreign movies ever made and I hope you share my feeling about it, thank you for your work and keep it up.

I know I'm not a patron but if you haven't seen All Quiet on the Western Front it's a really good movie. It takes place during the first World War and follows a class of German boys as they enlist for the army and fight against the french. The 1979 version is in full color and available on amazon Prime if you have it

Take a look at the Sebastian Schipper's film 'Victoria' (2015) the whole 2 hour 20 minute film was one single take (not like Birdman where the cuts were just hidden)

It’s a great film.. and more important then ever .. in time where people fear the others.. we need movies about the will and hope for a better world and not let fear and stupidity be a downfall and how we shouldn’t let us hate the people for different cultures or ways of life or let’s parrots ruin others people life.. !

New subscriber here, I'm probably going to dropping comments everywhere as I mosey on through your videos! All great work. The second I heard that music I knew Mr Robot was going to be involved somewhere! Each of the examples of 'Oners' you had at the beginning are all great films / TV series in their own right. Are there any notoriously bad examples though?
@AMatterofFilm6 жыл бұрын
Hi Harvey! Welcome to our channel :) glad you found us. The long take is becoming increasingly popular and filmmakers use it now more than ever. More than anything I think it's sometimes apparent that a long take isn't the most appropriate shot for a given scene. That's what I meant by saying that some directors use it to show off. The church scene from Kingsman is well executed, but the cuts aren't well hidden. So instead of a oner, maybe that scene would have benefited from multiple non-hidden cuts. By the way we're doing a Mr. Robot video as soon as we reach our goal on Patreon. I'll leave the link here if you want to help us get there :): www.patreon.com/amatterofilm . Glad you found us Harvey!
@hkay936 жыл бұрын
Interesting, I'll have to go back and give Kingsman another watch for it, no doubt it adds a whole other layer of difficulty when the long take they're trying to go for is a scene with a lot of action. But you've got me interested now, Mr. Robot is easily one of the best (and incredibly creative) shows around, I might just pledge something after all to help it along!

This one, I'm used to... not bragging... it's like I have seen a lot of oners, but this time, with explanation. I am not against it, but it felt lacking for me to see this video but the effort still is fruitful since it is a good analysis. Keep it up!

@kac22666 жыл бұрын
for me at least you failed to answer the most important question: why NOT a cut or two? all those emotional moments could've been accomplished with a couple of shorter oners in my opinion. so why make it so long?
@kac22666 жыл бұрын
BIG MAC I guess it doesn't work for me. All I'm thinking about is the camera and it's awkward movements is the space of the scene, witch takes me out of the film.
