Chris Stuckmann's Review: • Mission: Impossible - ...
M:I: Fallout Trailer #1: • Mission: Impossible - ...
If you’re in need of an adrenaline rush, look no further. Mission: Impossible Fallout can be your quick fix. So we’re six movies into this franchise and there seems to be no signs of it running out of gas anytime soon. Mission: Impossible is the rare franchise that seems to get better with age. A very big part of it, if not the biggest is Tom Cruise who is without a doubt the biggest action movie star working today. The amount of effort he puts into his movies is outstanding. He performs a lot of the stunts himself and they just seem to get bigger and better each time. In Ghost Protocol he scaled the Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world. In Rogue Nation he hanged from a cargo plane as it took off. In this movie he drives a motorcycle against traffic at high speeds without a helmet and flies a helicopter like 4 inches away from crashing into rocks. He even broke his foot on this one scene where he jumps from one building into another without any cables by the way. He’s also the first actor to ever do a HALO jump, which is a High Altitude Low Opening jump where the cinematographer shot him with a camera on his helmet as they were falling. It’s insane. If risking your own life for the sake of entertainment isn’t being devoted to your job I don’t know what is. The man is 56 years old and he’s doing the craziest stunts of his career now. Tom Cruise, you have our respect. It’s also the first real direct sequel in the Mission: Impossible franchise since it was directed by Christopher Mcquarrie who also directed the last movie. As well as being the first in the franchise where you kind of have to watch the last movie to fully understand what happens here.

It is his greatest strength because he’d never pull it off alone. It’s that devotion he shows his team that has his team devoted to him. His greatest weakness is his greatest strength.

Listen up people and superheros: This is how you make an action flick. Real, atmospheric, wide and authentic, no cheats, shaky cams, and quick cuts.

You nailed 2 points. 1) This series is getting better with every movie. 2) Camerawork and screenplay were Oscar worthy.

Bob Georgiou the screenplay is definitely not Oscar worthy lmao the film's strength are in its set pieces and action stunts

Normally I would agree with you but 1) This has been a terrible year for good movies and 2) the combination of strorytelling using camera angles during action action sequences against beautiful panoramic backdrops is exemplary and above the fray.

As long as you don't count MI: 2, yes, they get better with each film. But 2 was just... awful lol

The camerawork in this film is so good. The screenplay though, okay, but not really Oscar worthy.

@@neil3500 no, the screenplay was incredible. The only non-oscar worthy part of the film is the fact that it's about nukes. That's it, everything else is exceptional

I wholeheartedly agree with Tom when he said, they found the blueprint with MI4. Tom Cruise is great and all, but the supporting cast is just as interesting, and most importantly, vital to the story in the films. From a cast standpoint, this was the best in the series, from villains to supporting roles. Making it just as captivating when Cruise is off screen. And the cinematography....wow! This is a very very close second to MI rogue nation imo. But maybe after multiple viewings, it make take the number one spot.

while I really loved fallout I don't think anyone can top the performance of p.s. hoffman in MI3. That was one of the best movie villain portrayals in history and not just in the mission impossible franchise imo. I agree that the supporting cast plays a big role in the franchise though since tom cruises character doesn't really have much of a character himself really and I think they used the supporting cast quite beautifully in the newest iteration of the franchise.

I completely agree with you, I really didn't have any high expectations going into this movie but I was completely blown away by it. The stunts, the cinematography, the twists and also the humor was amazing. Tom Cruise never ceases to amaze me.

This was legit the best action film of 2018, I think it should genuinely get a nomination for the screenplay and camerawork if not anything else, it's time Academy honor the people who make it happen.

Excellent film probably my favorite in the franchise and one of the best films in the recent past. Although he did have a cable the stunts are insane. A HALO jump I mean, for real? Tom Cruise is no doubt the best action movie star who is currently still working

That sums it up pretty much perfectly, the only thing that you didn’t mention that was great was also the score for the film. Although a bit reminiscent at times to The Dark Knight Rises I’d say the film’s score is the best in the series, really acting as a driving point of the movie, and intensifying the scenes

While I agree with everything you said, there was one aspect of the film that I felt was a let down when compared to it's predecessors. The "Mission: Impossible" films are great for it's deception and twists (Certain characters allegiances, enemies are actually allies, the trickery being hidden from the main baddie AS WELL AS the audience), however, I feel that "MI - Fallout" was far too predictable when compared to its other films. When watching I could almost predict where the next "twist" was coming from. While this did not make the film unwatchable or unenjoyable, it certainly deflated the experience somewhat.

I enjoyed it a great deal and the set pieces really are the movie. However, I felt like it was predictable which wore some of the mystique off for me. It’s definitely the best one in the franchise and Cruises work deserves some sort of award but the movie overall was just good not very good or even great. Maybe I need to see it again on an imax screen, I don’t know.
