that tip with using a more contrasty profile at night that reduces need for grading was super valuable!! 👍😀
@JohnSmith-wj2wd6 жыл бұрын
This was something new for me also. Here I was, shooting at night with the flattest profile imaginable, while wondering why my footage looked so grainy after post compared to other videos shot with the same type of camera.
@ch3ckm86 жыл бұрын
@@JohnSmith-wj2wd well it's common practice to color correct when shooting flat. So those grain should eventually turn pure black in post.

Hi I have big request, it’s been 2 months I tried to setup my Gh4 100 times and followed KZbin experts settings but still when I shoot the video is coming bright and play back bright in camera monitor, however when I export the photage video to my Mac book pro 16 inch, the videos is darker.. I use 3.6 aperture 50 shutter 4k 25p , iso 400-800, 1 roof light 2 led lights, AWB, Cinelike D -5,-5,-3,0,+1, masterpedisteral +5.. I m really frustrated with, any solution plz

This advice will spare beginning filmmakers tremendous wasted time and frustration from trying to learn the hard way. Thank you. It took me too long to learn that if it's important it's got to be lit. "Expose for what matters." Said differently, never try to save a shadowy face in post, it doesn't work.

Great suggestions, especially about not shooting flat in the night. But if you don't have a fast lens of 1.8 or less, then shoot without noise or rolling shutter, and if the image is still too dark tell anyone who criticises that it was deliberately done that way because you wanted it that way! Philosophy in film-making can come handy always. You can justify anything wrong, including shaky camera! My fav cam setting is S on my Nikon 3300, with auto ISO upper limit of 800 :)

Thank you. I had no idea about base and my camera was on 4000 iso. I moved it to 800 to play and I am using a prime lens. I really love how I have to work to use the prime and move into the work. Anyway, thanks again for the four videos I just watched with my camera in hand. Now ... back to my Instant Pot and shooting a video at 30fps 1/60 shutter and 800 iso. Even if this doesn't work for where I am, it gives me a good base. Cheers, Ivy.

Thank you so much - this was so well done and clear! I recently started making KZbin videos - lifestyle stories about living close to nature, simple living, conscious living, adventures etc. and have been deep in the learning curve around getting quality images. Especially since I went the route of: "the best gear to start with is the gear you have" and for me, that's an old Canon 7D that I never fully learned how to use. Thank you again, you provide such value to this community!

I also like the suggestion to shoot the look you want instead of shooting log. I wish more DP's did this no matter the time of day. It would cause them to think more about what they're shooting and we wouldn't end up with so many videos and movies that look the same.

I'm not an expert, but with LOG-footage (RAW data) you should be able to get the Cine-V 'preset' look and a bit more extra controll. The Cine-V preset in the camera is a Transform-LUT, which converts/bakes the 'LOG-data' directly to the Cine-V look (final look). If you know how the camera converts the data (from colorspace to colorspace AND when it applies some color-corrections), you could recreate this conversion. As I said, I'm not an expert, but with the VFX at work we work with different LUTS ;)! Anyway, the Cinve-V preset isn't wrong, it's very handy and has a nice result! Nice explanation @ ISO, aperture and shutter speed! :)

Question: I have a gig where I will be filming in a nightclub. I will also be moving around. Subjects will be dressed in all white. I plan on using my 35mm prime f1.8 capable lense. I can even place a light on the camera. My concern is the moving around. In the day f8 keeps things in focus but in a nightclub where you are moving around. What's the best settings for keeping things in focus.

i learned something really useful as a beginner with cameras. from youtube tutorials i followed i set my zv e10 profile to hlg3 for color grading... but after watching this since i only do talking head shoots during night time, i changed my settings to cine 4 pro because like you said, it is better to shoot night footages with picture profile that gives good color and only requires few tweaks. awesome advise.
