Tip No. 6: don't drag up the shadows in Post too much it will always increase the noise drastically, even for ISO100. Tip No. 7 if it looks too noisy, just add grain for the vintage look. Show what you can't hide. (Or just add a slight faded look to the dark areas)

G'day Jason, as a former Associated Press news/war photographer, a 33 year veteran pro photographer, and never having had the choice but to shoot in anything other than manual with my Pentax k1000 which I got for my 12th birthday in 1978, I agree with everything you said. That was great advice, even when speaking about jpg. Because of your really grounded attitude I have just become a subscriber. Not that you will teach me anything, but I like the way you explain the fundamentals of photography. Keep up the good work mate and looking forward to viewing more of your videos👍

That short timelapse at 3:50 is absolutely sick! The slight bit of motion from the train adds a cool warping effect that would look like crap if faked in post.

Some cameras handle dynamic range and hence can reduce noise much better than others. I have a friend who moved from Nikon to Canon as it suited his Bird Photography better (lenses / prices etc), another moved from Canon to Sony for the perceived better autofocus which was most important to him. I moved from Canon to Nikon about 10 years ago as I regularly shoot in low light and Nikon just does it noticeably better (we are all semi pro full frame shooters). I also own some Sony gear and the Nikon system is always first choice for anywhere where light may be an issue.

Tip number 6, live with noise. Nobody is going to look at you photo at 1:1 zoom level. As long as your photo looks good globally, it's a good photo. With modern full frame cameras you can shoot with ISO 12800 with some noise reduction, the photo will still look good globally.

For a lot of situations I would agree, but not for all... For myself, I often shoot with an end goal of printing, and printing shows up every little defect. Especially noise.

I'm still learning as I go but got some knowledge. I got myself a Sony A7iii last month and loving it and saving up for a prime lens like a 24mm G Master but have taken good none flash hand hold at night with the kit lens. Very interesting video

Great video Jason but I have quick question. Why do you say on cropped sensor cameras to Double focal length for shutter speed to get stabilization? I have never heard of this but if it’s right I will make note and try it. Example 50mm lenses you say ss should 1/100 or more. I shoot Fuji cropped sensor and always followed the 1/focal length rule. Thanks!
