It's the case length. The COAL can vary from round to round by as much as a 0.1 inches or more, which doesn't sound like much until you consider that anyone even halfway decent at hand loading can have variations of less than 0.001 inches. My first batch of hand loads had variations up to .3 inches in some cases. I've got it down to where it stays in the thousandths of an inch now.

I think I was 20 when I saw this movie about a former marine that took these juvenile delinquents and dropped them in a swamp. Some of them were actually in rival gangs. One was believed to have killed the little brother of one of the others. After several days on their own the guy returned. Then he started training them like the military. He was then going to take them back to the city to clean up the streets. He trained one to be a sniper, gave him the mathematical information to hit the target. I took that information and applied it to a BB gun. You guys are probably laughing your butts off about now. :) My home town is hundreds of miles from the east coast but shortly after I watched that movie there was the hurricane that made it through New York. The winds were so strong that my home town in Ohio felt the affects of the wind but without the rain. I was down at the park, off of Lake Erie. I was just messing around. I never in my life took it serious that I could calculate what those of you guys that have been snipers could do but I gave it a shot. No pun intended. Applying the calculations, judging the weight of the BB, the rating of the BB gun which may not be all that accurate but still. By my calculations I figured I would have to aim 45 degrees away from the target. I took the shot and was totally shocked. I hit the target. My friends mouth dropped. I think he was more shocked than I was. Maybe it was just dumb luck but either way, I'll always remember that shot.
