I grew up overseas in a city with a US consulate. One of my fondest childhood memories was interacting with the Marine guards who would use their days off to spend time with my boy scout troop. The day they showed us the consulate armory was one of the happiest in my life. It's been over 20 years, but I have never met a finer example of Americans than those Marines. Not only did they make us feel safe, they were also model ambassadors themselves. Sgts Chad and Sgt. Chaz - wherever you are, Semper Fi.

Before you want to join to look cool, look up MSG collateral duties, curfews, alcohol restrictions, marine house restrictions, and think about if you want to stand firewatch for 8 hours a day, 6 days a week, 52 weeks a year, and not be able to sleep if you have the overnight shift. I am not saying its horrible, I would still have done it again (prior MSG) but just make sure you look into it because MSG has one of the biggest recruiting programs in the Marine Corps, and they DO straight up lie to you about certain aspects of the program

I have heard that the Marines who "guard" embassies are not allowed to put bullets in their guns. Is that true? What is the point if the guard then? I have also read the book 13 Hours where it says that "local military" is used to patrol the outside of embassies. Is that true everywhere or only in thus instance. We had a cousin die while on duty at the embassy in Belgium. We were told he was a guard but he was army. Later I learned that it is the Marines who guard. So, being Army, he probably had some other job than guard? Just trying to get it all straight in my mind. I respect all branches of the military for the sacrifices they make, especially since it is now all voluntary. Got to tell you tho, my brother was in the Marines, stationed at Yuma. He was a jerk when he went in and a first class jerk when he came out.

This program has its perks. Im completing my third 3 year this month, and it has been an adventure. If you arent a fan of sitting in a box for 8 hours a day, 4-5 days a week then this isn't for you. Ive had the pleasure of serving at Embassies in London and Abidjan, and also at the consulate in Lahore. I enjoyed experiencing new cultures around the world, but the restrictions that come with being Marine, a Security Guard, and living on embassy grounds isn't the most enjoyable, neither is standing in a box for 8 hours. Im grateful for the places I've been able to travel to and experience while working in various countries though, and for the amazing people you meet while working at these embassies/consulates.

1st FAST 1989 here. Back then it was called MCSF before I floated over to FAST. Camp Geiger was our training station back then after ITS. I think FAST had only been around for a little more than a year. Much has changed it seems but the restrictions still apply. We didn't get a nice ceremony; Just our orders. The M9 just became standard service pistols and I think we were the second cycle to train with them. We are the true history of the Corps and it was a huge honor!! My most memorable thing that happened at one of my duty station, MarDet USS Holland, was putting the Captain of the Ship up against the bulkhead, weapon drawn, for failure to produce identification to access the N. missile chamber after he insisted entry and I gave the 3 warnings. Security Alert when off and when the team blew through the hatch sporting M-9s, M-16s and Mossberg 590s, less than 30 seconds later, it was only then we learned it was a surprise drill. That night the Captain asked me if I wanted to be his partner in a game of Spades with other officers. I then became his personal driver/protection during my last month of duty before hitting FAST. Great way to skate.

I am a civvy Security Officer based in the UK in a large multinational Security Company, and I have to say the Marine Security Guards in this video, look very professional, and the training they get looks top of the range, I wish normal security companies provided the same security training/equipment here in England, but then again the cliental that these marines protect are a bit more high profile then the people I protect, but I will do my best to protect them despite having little to no professional training, this basically works because they have that military approach to things, but I see no reason personally why some of us in the industry should not have that same approach to our work, the best guards are the ones who take their job seriously, are good people and the ones who are not corrupt in a sense, basically people who don't disgrace the uniform in an ideal world.

I kinda like DAGREs. Not much to do with Marines, but it is something cool about them.

I have been fighting for months to get the orders to MSG school. I have been accepted by MSG and even given a class date. My monitor denies me due to short number in my MOS. What I wouldn't give to become an MSG.

If you think the Marines are the best in the world then you are very much fucking brain dead.. they are VERY good but not the Best.
@hunterodom83655 жыл бұрын
@@h_oplite they are the best entry level force in the world. Meaning a full branch ,not special forces ect. You can tell by correlating examples in history to the modern marine ,You can use history as an example . The marines are sentinals at embassies, goverment buildings ,white house ,president . Like the Pretorian guard of Rome and other examples . The best trained and most expected to handle a job was used in positions like these all through history like the marines today . Of course the seals are better than marines, of course the spetsnaz are etc but as far as entry level full fledge branches of any military the marines are the best in the world . They are the best full fledged fighting force in the world .

Kinda confused. At 4:51, it looks like Sgt.Elliot has a tattoo on his right bicep. I thought one of the requirements to be a MSG is to not have any tattoos whether they were visible or not. Can somebody inform me if im mistaken?
@mattoreskey74939 жыл бұрын
+ConquerTheCraft I have 2 tattoos that are visible in uniform, and I made it through the training no problem
@ConquerTheCraft9 жыл бұрын
+Matt Oreskey you made it through MSG School no problem?

+Matt Oreskey did you get them before enlisting and going through basic?
@mattoreskey74939 жыл бұрын
+ConquerTheCraft nope got all my tattoos after bootcamp through the past few years. the only thing they look for at MSG school as far as tattoos go is that your not seriously violating the marine corps tattoo policy and that your tattoos would not offend a different culture

Hell Ya! Ima be an MSG I ship out to MCRD SD August 18th delta co. I haven't really found a decent video or site that gave this much info about being an MSG. How ever it does seem like a crappy job. I expect to be standing post 8 hours a day. Oh well I will see how it goes
