Whenever I see a troop with a shot group all over the place and 6+ adjustments on their zero, I pull them aside to practice proper sight picture, dry fire drills (with a dime), and to properly and comfortably get behind their assigned weapons. This video is BRM Gold. This is the answer to a lot of the frustration from both shooters and range NCO's. Often times the focus is place on breathing and trigger squeeze, when in reality the shooter is doing those things right. I also advice to the troops to find that place on your rifle stock and place a mark on it and always reference to it every time you raise the weapon until they don't need that point of reference anymore. Great video, thank you for taking your time to do this.
@joshwelsh1935 Жыл бұрын
I had gone off of what my Drill Sergeants taught me for the past year and half. I was doing the whole 7 second breath out to raise the weapon from bottom to target, aiming the center, and going for it. I had a constant 8-14/40 on the M4 Qual every time. Just recently my teammates figured out that I'm shooting like that and they taught me some new ways to shoot. I keep my mouth on the lip of the stock, you aim, close your eyes, look away, put your face back in place, and open your eyes again and see if your sight picture is off. You breath normally. Now I'm shooting 30s and am trying to get expert consistently (Just need to work on some 300s). Sight Alignment is so true, more than you think. Those Drill Sergeants are teaching like 200+ guys so they don't give a damn about making a good shooter. Thanks for the video though I was in high school when you made it.

Here are typical reasons for horizontal and vertical grouping and as the author of this video said, it is not breathing. Breathing only becomes a problem when an unqualified coach tells the shooter to watch his breathing, then it becomes impossible to shoot during natural breathing pause. Vertical group assessment shows good trigger control and poor elevation. Some of the probable causes of vertical grouping are: 1. Poor follow through 2. Changing sight picture 3. A very low position 4. Changing sight alignment 5. Failure to maintain proper sight alignment 6. Changing distance from eye to sight 7. Varying rifle butt position in shoulder 8. Position of left elbow wrong (rifle fired from right shoulder) 9. Not enough head pressure Horizontal group assessment shows good elevation and poor trigger control. Some of the probable causes of horizontal grouping are: 1. High right shoulder 2. High vertical position 3. Jerking the trigger 4. Varying head pressure 5. Movement of the right elbow 6. No stability of position 7. Change in sight picture 8. Failure to maintain proper sight alignment

solid highlight boss! Reminds me of the demo given by the coach of the winning service rifle team. Extent arm, put thumb to far object, then focus on the tip of the thumb, then focus on the object, then tip, then object, back and forth. You'd observe the student inadvertently moves his arm up and down ever so sightly with each chance. And there you have it. Vertical stringing shot group explained. It ain't breathing. I zeroed with 4 rounds in basic. Removed the sand bag. Placed mag on ground. 1st shot. Called it a good break, adjust, 2nd shot, adjust, 3rd, near mid 25m silhouette, 4th to confirm it POI stays the same within mechanical accuracy of the worn A4 using the same POA. Done. This way, for both supported and unsupported I got the exact head position and nothing touching the non-free floated barrel/heat guard

Depends on what you're shooting. M1A's can easily have flyers and wide shot groups when things aren't properly tightened, when the gas lock isn't properly timed, when the gas plate isn't shimmed, and when the barrel tensioner isn't at the proper tension. So there's a whole lot of factors that go into accurizing your shots. Make sure you go over everything. Any loose component on your firearms that can cause accuracy problems, most likely are causing accuracy problems, because most people don't even pay any attention to them, and in their defense they're not armorers so how would they know. So rule of thumb, when you get a new firearm, get to know it, in and out. Learn what can cause accuracy problems and tackle them immediately. Learn about your twist rates and what length bullets like to be shot out of your barrel's twist rate. THEN you can start worrying about your sights and sight picture and all that jazz.

My rear sight ended up almost all the way to the left and my shot's windage on the target did not change,so I figured it was me not doing something right. So , thanks a bunch,I'm gonna focus more on sight picture and see what happens. If you had a recommendation for some iron sight for long range to put on it, what would that be? Thank You for another great video. I am new to your channel, and so far, I am hooked.
@TacticalRifleman7 жыл бұрын
The problem with flip-ups on a scoped rifle (such as a R700) is that the ocular lens (rear of the scope) sits right where you need that rear sight to be. So, back up sights on a scoped rifle need to be removable or off-set. If you are going to just run Iron Sights, then go with some good Palmer Sights. Google M-24 SWS Iron Sights, and you'll see what I used to run on a 700. I hate to favor one brand or another. My thing is to buy quality sights that are micro adjustable. Hope this helps and thanks for watching. Strength & Honor, TR

When I was in Basic Training, I could barely qualify as a Marksman. Which is the lowest rifle qualification. I didn't find out until I finished basic, that my problem was that I am cross dominant. Meaning I am right handed, but my left eye is dominant. Luckily, I found out that I am ambidextrous, and can shoot fine left handed. I always shot Expert after I switched. Don't know how my Drill Sergeants missed doing the simple eye dominance test with me. So if you are having issues with zeroing do the eye dominance test. There are plenty of videos to watch about it.

The Pupil of the eye must be centered behind the aligned sights. So, you CAN technically move your head (eye) closer or further away. However, any deviation of the head left, right, up, or down; and the pupil would no longer be centered behind the aligned sights. Hope that makes sense to you. Thanks for watching, TR.

No idea who tsc is, but video ideas? I've been really interested in a lead mitigation system. Can't afford to run green ammo much and would like to know what kind of steps and practices can help me reduce or eliminate the lead from entering my system during practice. Thanks for the super high quality content!
@TacticalRifleman7 жыл бұрын
What system are you talking about?( water system or blood system?) If you are worried about the ground water under your range; just use earth berms and don't shoot steel targets. Berms catch the solid slugs within, and the rain runs down the outside of the berm. Very very little chance of lead getting in ground water. However, if you shoot steel targets, the lead bullets disintegrate and the micro lead particles are absorbed into the soil. If you are worried about it getting into your bloodstream, shoot with the wind behind you. Everyone worries about the lead absorbing through their hands when touching targets, but the real threat is from breathing in the dust. Lung membranes are very permeable and absorb dust and gases very well. At our CQB school, they often test the instructors blood for lead, and have found those with the highest levels were the ones that worked in the shoot houses. That is because the FlashBang grenades stir all the dust up off the floors. So, stay away from the dust and smoke and you should be fine. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching. Strength & Honor, TR.

While coaching an SDM student on Range 66 at 600 meter firing line, Ft. Bragg, I positioned my eye behind student’s ACOG to get a feel for how much parallax could be mustered in order to see how important consistent sight alignment would be for all of the shooters I was coaching. This exercise produced 3 MOA of error so I instructed my student group to maintain sight alignment/stock weld for their entire string of fire. Seems other coaches did not mention how critical maintenance of sight alignment was and thus my group won and we received challenge coins. At any rate the 3MOA error at 600 meters is about 18 inches and thus such error would certainly lead to misplaced shots off the E type target. Now in all fairness no one would ever position their eye as off center of ACOG eyepiece as I did but discovering the great parallax error with dramatic eyeball misplacement did inspire recognition to make sight alignment perfect.
@kakamoraislander95406 жыл бұрын
Talking about sight alignment, looking through rear sight (circle) do you need to see just the front post (stick) centered or need also to use the sides of the front post- centered?
@TacticalRifleman6 жыл бұрын
Just the tip of the front sight post. Some rifle sights do no have side-wings or hoods. Always go with just the tip centered in the rear sight.
