And then there is me, and all those like me. 7 months very high fat (80/20) clean beefy carnivore. Lost 42 pounds and now healthy BMI for first time in 24 years! Maintaining weight is easy. Feel good mentally, physically, spiritually and emotionally. Have healed numerous serious health issues, put autoimmune in remission, feel amazing. Well enough now to join the gym and start working on strength stability and flexibility. BOTH sides of this debate are right some of the times and in specific situations. I do not expect to be high fat forever. The only med I have left (!!!) Is the lowest dose of armour thyroid. Good fat is very helpful in restoring hormones and a host of other health issues. My health was always far more important than my weight. Carnivore lets you enjoy good health and a healthy weight. I am watching this because I am ready to cycle in some low fat high protein days when going to the gym. Eating keto/carnivore really should be viewed a spectrum, or even better to me...a toolbox. Because I haven't made one "professional" or influencer my "guru,” and I pay attention, and have a notebook filled with, ALL of the strategies others have had success with. None of these people are MY doctors, or yours. They do not know YOUR body/health issues, exactly what you are eating etc. Based on my experiments so far, I believe there is no ONE WAY to be keto/carnivore even for me! I am glad I am not stuck in a tiny restrictive way of eating. I am glad to have so many metabolic "shake up" strategies to keep my body in good health. I am glad I know that should I get a cancer diagnosis or show signs of dementia I will have myself in therapeutic ketosis PDQ. I have a health toolbox now, and I am grateful for the different "experts" sharing.

@singsongcindy8865 Wondering if maybe you are good at volume/portion control--which could be a key factor when eating higher fat?
@singsongcindy88654 ай бұрын
@@Zach-Hey hi there. I am, not a carb addict, nor do I have “addictive behavior” in general. That helps. I have always been a volume eater, but I now think that is because as a “Whole Foods, plant based” eater my body was HUNGRY for nutrition and satiety. Carnivore has given me back my satiety signals. The only things I overeat now (Thanksgiving full type overeating) are my monthly air fryer chicken wings with carnivore blue cheese dressing treat, OR monthly carnivore pizza. Notice that BOTH of things I am prone to overeat on are facsimiles of unhealthy “normal” craving foods we all enjoy. Once I realized I was doing this, I started portioning instead of just cooking a ton of wings or pizza so I would have leftovers.

Craig Emmerich is sooooo underrated. His name doesn't get thrown around in the KZbin/social media health space like so many others but honestly, he's far better than most of them. He understands the science as well as anyone but also talks plain old common sense. People have been cutting body fat while retaining muscle mass since the body building movement began in the 1960's. And how did they do it? With basically a PSMF. Baked chicken breast and steamed broccoli has been the diet of physique athletes for DECADES yet the Keto macros people slavish believe that devouring fat while trying to dump body fat is somehow not circular madness!

If you're fat, don't eat more fat. It's what general wisdom has been saying all along. Keto wants you to eat more fat to keep you satiated so you don't snack and eat too much. It's cutting out the carbs (eating less fruit, vegetables) that's the problem. I've been using more fat (butter) to eat less between meals and late evening, but I'm now not losing any more weight so I'm going to follow this now.

The idea of more fat is just the first week to get fat adapted then cut back on fat and add more protein
@sidneybuckaloo7 ай бұрын
I wouldn’t say it doesn’t work. It’s worked for thousands of people. Adding more fat doesn’t always make you fat. Look at the stories of people who it helps. Just because one thing works for one person doesn’t mean that it works for another. High fat, moderate protein or high protein, moderate fat.

After being carnivore for 6 months after a diagnosis of insulin resistant, I get it! (I think). Im 74 years old female. I’m also now 105 pounds. Lost 20 pounds. Went zero carb. Med protein. Med fat. No calorie counting. After using your macro formula, I was very close to recommended numbers. That was a fluke cause I simply couldn’t eat the amt of protein and fat that carnivore demanded so I cut them back drastically. Now I will keep to the protein grams of the calculator, not go over the fat grams, stay no more than 20 carbs in the form of veg/salad not grain/junk, and do more exercise. My hair was thinning and falling b4 I ever went carnivore but now it’s worse. I will take electrolytes hoping low sodium was the problem. Am I on the right track? 🤞 And hardest cut back on my 2 cups of coffee. Excellent presentation. Very clear. Easy to understand now. ❤

Sometimes I will use my own notebook or whiteboard to take notes as I'm listening~ either written words or visual cues, such as the 'bubble chart' method learned in essay writing or even simple graphics. Everyone learns differently, & translating the information being offered is often of personal benefit. We might consider that not everyone is comfortable or adept at teaching in the same ways we might prefer to learn, which is when it's helpful for the learner to adapt the opportunity. =)

I was recently in a ketovore/carnivore FB group that was always tell people to eat like 80-90% fat, to the point where they were starting to sound cultish. They also completely ignored the laws of thermodynamics and TDEE rule. So many post about how a someone had been on the diet for years with no WL and they were told to eat more fat and not track intake. Everybody has a different body so the same plan doesn't work for everybody. One obvious thing is that it is not sustainable to go in extended fasts as the main way to lose weight because you are going to gain it all back when you start to eat again. It's better to follow a program that would be sustainable on the long term. Since fasts seem to work for you, try maintaining just a narrow eating window daily, no more than 6 hours. Then make a conscious effort to do at least 10000 steps a day. Also add strength training, particularly during your PSMF days. You can start with something as simple as using an exercise bike that has resistance bands so you have to make more of an effort to pedal and are building muscle mass. You can also follow videos in which exercises are done with resistance bands. You don't need to work out like a maniac because you don't want to injure yourself

Nice explanation, I have a 23 BMI , now I get why my triglycerides are under 60 and my glucose was just over 100, not extreme low carb, maybe just under 60-70 grams and definitely over 120 grams of protein per day, I’ve been trying to build muscle, and definitely for my older age, fasting and no carbs has not worked to see gains just loose weight and muscle, even with limited or no more gains, I see a toned and better shaped body, I take creatine every day, if stop for a week my body gets thin and can’t do the same amount of reps and sets as hen I am taking it, and I eat a lot of animal protein and eggs.

I gut was so bad when I started that my doctor mentioned disability. No way without trying everything first. After 10 years, I started having high fasting glucose readings and gaining weight. After a year of this and tweaking and tweaking with no success, and feeling low energy, I reintroduced some carbs. Been rocking along for a couple years like this doing better than most but definitely not my optimal. I need a keto reboot. I feel best when on keto. Where do I start; which book or whatever? "May have to watch it again..." I watched it three times and still only understood about 1/3 of what he said. I am so confused. I started Carnivore because my Dr put me on very low oxalates. ( And she was right. I don't seem to be able to digest oxalates. I just thought I had Candida. ) Until then I had no idea what an oxalate was. But I also have hypothyroid, low adrenals, fibromyalgia and hashimotos but have histamine reactions to the meds so I stopped taking them and was trying to heal on my own with Carnivore/High Fat. But I have put on so much weight with Hashimoto and Carnivore doesn't let me lose the unhealthy weight. I would like to do the protein fast you recommend but just one hamburger patty has 38 grams of fat so it seems I would have to starve to follow it. So confusing.

@MariaEmmerich Жыл бұрын
You aren't losing weight because you are adding too much fat. First, get your macros right (be sure to read the notes at the top of the calculator) mariamindbodyhealth.com/calculator/ Next, your colon doesn't need fat to go poo. It needs sodium. Electrolytes are non-negotiable on a low carb diet: mariamindbodyhealth.com/how-to-balance-electrolytes/
@harriscarol5139 ай бұрын
Ooohhh good to know about electrolytes and BMs! I wish there was an easy electrolyte something to take that doesn’t taste like salt water. I tried LMNT, which did taste good, but my body held onto so much water with it. I gained 2 pounds every day I took it and my body swelled up so much I couldnt bend my fingers or knees! Is there a pill or some other suggestion? I take ozonated magnesium at night now and also have magnesium glycinate (but I’m not consistent with that) but I don’t do anything else. How do we know if it’s salt, magnesium or potassium we need?

I appreciate this information but I have questions. I did my macros through maria's website. It appears im only supposed to get around 1,300 calories a day. I have read that being in a calorie deficit for a long time (and it would need to be a long time for me since i have 200 pounds to lose) would eventually lower the metabolism to match the decreased fuel. How would living this way not eventually destroy my metabolism? I come from the world of Dr. Berry and it really didn't work for me, i overloaded on fats and gained weight on carnivore. I'm finally open to hearing the truth and using common sense to help me make better decisions. This makes sense other than my fear of harming my metabolism. Thanks!

To prevent metabolic adaptation we prioritize lean animal protein and leverage dietary fat.
