I haven't been able to eat beef in years and very little other meats. I have been stuck on trying a vegan, a vegetarian and keto and all failed and I was horribly sick. I have only ate steak and eggs all week and I feel FABULOUS! I haven't weighed myself but I can feel it in my clothes already. I can not digest veggies or grains at all. I have FH and have had a stroke even though I lost weight. I think my CAC score of 117 is due more to over 60 years of eating too much sugar and highly processed foods. A little afraid to go full out carnivore, but def feel comfortable eating more beef, butter, and eggs, but still eat a lot of fruits and and non-starchy vegetables. It’s been easier to set a “bright line” about not eating “foods” that include added sugar, grains, and/or seed oils, but am still hesitating about going full carnivore. Is it possible that this kind of eating (carnivore) is better for the majority of people, but maybe not for me? I’m focusing on eating more fatty fish, but don’t like it yet.

I ended up being taken to the hospital with a blood sugar level of 1099 and my ac1 was at a 12. After I was brought back down and recieved surgery I was given the news that I was type 2 and told how to maintain my problem. Man I was lost and I found you and a few others that helped guide me. I switched to very clean meat and good fat diet with a few vegetables here and there and cleaned up my whole diet and started 12-14 hour fasting and I went from 289-197 in 5 months. My ac1 is sitting at a 4.8 and my resting blood glucose is at 80. I no longer take the insulin or the metformin. But even with that, after a few weeks, I'm noticing all kinds of good. My muscle tone's increasing and I haven't started exercising, and my ability to relax is also greatly heightened -- I feel a deep relaxation where I used to feel a bit of fatigue, almost a stressful kind of tiredness. I think both of those changes might be related directly to the production of chemicals et al involved in muscle contraction.

@Ariella-mx3xq4cw6n5 ай бұрын
Both doctors agreed there was evolution but Dr Bickman said no evidence. What neither said was the complete lack of evidence for macro evolution. Very short version my view. There are two types of evolution. Micro (adaption. Real) and macro (change from one kind to another. False). The chimp has 70% DNA a banana has 50% DNA. Macro Evolution is a Hypothesis not a theory. God did not use macro evolution, that would mean there was un living, illness, disease, osteoarthritis and tumours, before man arrived. At the same time it negates the death of a man on a cross. If God used macro evolution then He introduced sin NOT man, Which means we do not need Jesus to save us, we are innocent victims. Which we are not.

It's a bad theory based on a poor usage of the scientific method. No one except God was there in the beginning. He told us what he did. I used to believe in evolution and called myself an atheist. But when I got better information I realized that the Bible was way more accurate than all of that stuff I was taught. None of the scientists that promote an old age of the universe and evolution were there in the beginning. And none of the methods that they use to extrapolate into the past are accurate Beyond a few thousand years. Which is what the Bible says about the age of the earth. Approximately 6,000 years.
@Cardinalis20004 ай бұрын
Respectfully, this is a misunderstanding of language. Your words imply that there's some kind of hierarchy wherein a theory is inferior and "just a wild guess" but a law is superior and somehow more proven. That's just not how those words are used in science. Laws are predictive rules about how nature is expected to act under specific circumstances, often small enough to be written as an equation. Theories are overarching explanations of how and why nature works in those ways. In order to be widely accepted by scientists a theory must be well supported by many different lines of evidence over a period of time, including experimentation. Laws can be used as evidence to support theories but theories will never become laws because they serve a totally different function. Certainly Evolution is a Theory, but that does not make it lesser. One of these doctors is a cell biologist, which is built on *Cell Theory*.

This is an excellent presentation, one which I plan to re-watch a couple of times. My recent A1C test came out pre-diabetic, despite more exercise, some of it resistance, and no grains for the prior three months. I'm an omnivore. Oh, and no processed foods in the last three months! Everything tells me I am heading in the right direction, though the numbers don't seem right. For the first time, I am able to lift weights without getting elbow tendonitis or wrist tendonitis and even my rotator cuffs are starting to feel better. I have a HDL/Trig ratio of 0.85. So.... I was very interested in Dr. Bikman's comments about Omega 3 levels. I took the OmegaQuant blood test, and it showed optimal levels on all scales. It even showed an optimal Omega 6: Omega 3 ratio. It just turned out far better than most Americans show the first time they take it. (It may not be perfect, but it's the test that we currently have). For fun, I took some Nordic Naturals Fish Oil capsules for two months, and watched the levels move into an even better range. So imagine Dr. Bikman discussing how optimal Omega 3 levels in the blood improve the flexibility of red blood cells, making them slip around and move better. The fact that this phenomena is correlated with a deceptively high A1C is fascinating.... And the mention of pernicious anemia was too short a discussion! Thank you!

For slightly high a1c, I thought Paul Mason's recommended test of reticulocytes was spot on. As long as a low number is not accompanied by other indications of a pathology like anemia, it will support/confirm a lower demand due to slower turnover -- ie longer-lived red blood cells!
@MK-ft3qt5 ай бұрын
Are you saying a lower RBC on a riticulocyte count might me normal? If RBC count is low, would HCT and HGB be low as well?
@robertphillips935 ай бұрын
@@MK-ft3qt Mason's method is to test reticulocytes -- if that's low, and no pathology is otherwise indicated, the indicated cause will likely be low demand due to increased red blood cell longevity. Don't know if he has been able to verify the strength of this association by independent tests. Ken has a fairly recent discussion with him in one of his videos. FYI, my a1c was 5.7 when last checked, so my 5+ years of ketovore has done a great deal of good for this 73 yo carcass, and I'm going to credit lower senescence of red blood cells, as well as better skin!
@MK-ft3qt5 ай бұрын
@@robertphillips93 I think I understand. He's saying if a person has a normal RBC count on a CBC blood draw, the low riticulocyte RBC count will be low because there's no demand for more production of RBC's because the RBC are living longer.

Thank you for speaking on the question of faith and evolution. I have an acquaintance who is atheist and loves to mock my faith. He invokes human evolution as though it is a proven, documented fact. A couple of years ago I said that we can agree to disagree, but he persisted with his snarky attack. So I told him that he has his religion and I have mine. He was very upset by that comparison.

So glad I now understand what omega 3 does. I've had to stop taking it as a supplement because I end up with bruising under the skin when I bump/scrape myself; happens mainly on my forearms. When I started low carb I was using a lot of almond flour and not eating much fish. Over time I have eliminated the almond flour (I use coconut flour now) and I'm eating more salmon.

Thank you for giving us answers that are saving lives. For many years I have noticed that when I am fasting and am cooking a meal for my family, that the smell of the cooking food is almost like having eaten. My hunger and weakness is greatly decreased in just smelling the food and possibly due to the business of working in the kitchen.

I had gastric bypass 15 years ago and recently had a slightly high A1C. Dr got after me. I’m extremely careful with my diet. I was paleo. Have switched to keto a week ago to see if my dietary change will improve my A1C. I’m now experiencing headaches nearly every morning. I’m wondering if my A1C was artificially high due to my WLS! Thank you for bringing this up. I’m so grateful for your explanation as to how this could happen.

I managed my son's type 1 diabetes for several years, and in the case of type 1 diabetes, you know that the insulin you use is what's required to manage the total daily effects of food. I started him on a very carb controlled diet at about 25% carbs (30 grams 3x per day) and about 60% fat. He had to use about 1 unit of insulin for every 6 grams of carbs he ate at a meal, or about 5 units per meal x 3, and also basal insulin about 8 units a day. On a suggestion of a high carb type 1 diabetic researcher, I tried a 75% carb diet for 10 days. Within 3 days I had to reduce his insulin to 1 unit per 15 grams of carbs. His basal insulin also dropped a little. This happened gradually over 3 days though. Note that his total daily insulin requirements were the same, even though the insulin for a given number of carb grams was greatly reduced. When he returned to the 25% carb diet it also took about 3 days to go back to his old carb ratios. Now, it does demonstrate that muscles will load up on fatty acids or on glycogen depending on what is present. The 25% carb diet produced less variability in blood sugar, and particularly less risk of low blood sugar and lower peak blood sugar that occurred later. This also shows that insulin resistance should be based on insulin required to manage total energy expenditure. Some high carb advocates point to the fewer carbs covered by a unit of insulin and refer to it as insulin resistance, but on a total food basis there was no change. However, also note that low carb diets don't require LESS daily insulin than high carb diets. The exception would be that if the high carb diet pushes blood sugar up faster, it might result in hypersecretion of insulin which may also result in lower lows, and an increase in counter-regulatory hormones like cortisol, adrenaline and glucagon, so high carb might require a little more insulin because people hyper secrete, but carbs don't tend to do this if they are consumed around activity. Also the lowest insulin requirements occurred when switching from high fat to high carbs, but the lowest occurred in the 3 days switching from high carb to high fat. Overall, low carb/high fat lowers peak spikes after meals, raises baseline blood sugar, raises fasting insulin slightly, and reduces the overall range on the high and low end, but has no effect on total daily insulin exposure unless enough fast carbs are consumed to cause high spikes which result in hypersecretions, hypoglycemic trending, and stress hormone counter regulation. Oh, and one more thing, "slow, low GI carbs" like al dente pasta and legumes required 1.5-2.0x as much insulin to manage relative to their carb content than other carb sources, and extended over 6-12 hours. They seem to stimulate the release of liver glycogen as they pass through the intestines, so low GI carbs are probably the worst for total insulin exposure.

I don't think pasta or legumes are low on the glycemic index. Veggies are but even Brussels sprouts and broccoli will raise my bs. Meat, seafood and butter keep my bs on a very even keel
@mertonhirsch47343 ай бұрын
It's relative. Al Dente pasta is about 40 and if there is fat and protein it can be 20. Low glycemic index, but high glycemic load. Legumes are similar. Note that my post does NOT recommend them by the way, but it's largely because they are inflammatory.

What I found missing in the Randle Cycle topic the most was what some carnivore experts here on YT say: the claim that long-term (as in 1-2 years or longer) ketosis is dangerous or harmful in some way (I think they imply to break ketosis once and get back into it?). I'd have liked to hear it addressed.

At 78 you need a raised LDL. T Cells go into retirement at our age and LDL is part of the immune system. C victims of the past 4 years were more likely to survive C if they had a higher than normal LDL. Those with what Drs say have normal LDL were more likely to PASS. You also need Vitamin D tablets & K2. Our skin does not absorb the suns rays very well the older we get. LDL does not cause heart attacks high Insulin does. Interesting discussion in particular about the fact that fructose will not give any indication of A1c!!! However, the discussion about sugar replacement was a bit one-sided since you didn't mention the fact that substitute sugars/sweet taste can continue to drive the addiction to sugar/carbs which is something that I lived myself for many many years. Going carnivore and completely cutting out substitutes (and dairy) has been the only way my cravings have subsided. Not disappeared completely because the environment - cues and triggers me still from time to time. Hard to escape all the sugar/carb outlets even if I don't enter!!!

It’s also important to add that lots of sweeteners can disrupt the gut microbiome as well.
@jangrosemartindale87405 ай бұрын
I disagree- they kind of referred to it by saying IF & “for those using”. I think they’re being realistic about sweetener usage, because as they related, they now know SMELLING the sugar or sweetener items INDUCE a BRAIN response. The Drs understand it is an addiction, the brain expects & wants the glucose because it has been exposed, trained to accept it, due to the effects on the brain.
