This is really helpful! Are you using a dry brush or a wet brush to blend the chalk colours? And what’s the black paint you’re using for the lines?

Thank you! It's a dry paint brush, but pool noodles are actually a better blending tool. Im using tempera paint. Tempera paint is totally safe and washes right off!

@@CarolineGreenArt That’s great - we have some pool noodles. Thank you! I’m only getting started now with trying chalk painting.

That's exciting! I can't wait to see what you come up with! Feel free to tag me when you're done!

Do you have to scrub the tempera paint, or does it wash off with rain? We are decorating the sidewalk at school for my daighters last home game. I'm not sure if the school would want us to use paint....even it it is temporary. But I love how clear it makes the lines. Could I almost do the same thing with a wet paint brush? (Make the outlines crisp?) @CarolineGreenArt

@@nancycasper2605 Great question! So it depends on the brand of tempera. Some are cheaper/more washable and they come right off with rain however the coverage isn't great. Look on amazon for the "washable kind". Now the higher quality ones have better coverage so they need a couple good soaks to get them off. In addition, some dark colors such as black need to be hosed off or power washed off. However I have never needed to scrub. They come off over time with water!

How do you minimize dust. I am new to the sidewalk chalk drawing world and the level of dust I had; I end up having mountains of dust. I was thinking about bringing a mini vac to suck up the dust. :D

Great question! You will absolutely have some dust. But if you have a lot like you described, it means you might be over blending, or blending too hard. Try using cut up pool noodles instead of a paint brush to blend. This way, you are scrubbing the pigment and blending into the ground instead of across the surface. I'll make another video this year about chalk art, so check back for that!

I thought maybe I could make a suggestion if your open to it. To save how much chalk you go through on your guide lines and to speed up the preparation process you could get a chalk line/ plumb line from a hardware store to do that 0:51 in the vid.

Yes! A snap line. I discovered those a couple months after this video! 😁
