I noticed my 2010 prius was rattling quite loudly while idling. Here are the steps I took to fix it. Link to the galvanized hanger strap: amzn.to/3jLTLQ3

Re-purposing galvanized strap for another use................I like it. Good solid fix.

Thanks for the video! This one was way more original than "just add rivets".

Thank you! I've been looking for someone that had the same "various RPMs" issue too. This finally answers my question! (2013 Toyota Prius - Package 4) It's been tricking me for a while because it sounds like it's coming from around the B pillar when I'm driving uphill in Power Mode.

Excellent, clear DIY. Thank you for doing this!

Good job...would suggest to isolate between bolt/strap and aluminum shield so will not happen again...dissimilar metals cause corrosion of the more anodic material.

with what?

A couple of coats of hi-temp spray paint in whatever color you like would do.@@LykeArgy

Very nice! I had the same issue with my 2010 Prius years ago. I fixed it with a thin metal "washer" I cut off from a can and drilled a hole through it. The noise comes back again now and I'll try your recommended galvanized hanger strap this time as it looks more sturdy.

Great idea. On decent ones, I'd replace all bolts to stainless & use stainless split/lock washers. Of course, I live in the rust belt.

Just happened to my wife's 2010 Camry. Two dissimilar metals cause corrosion in one, and the aluminum shield corroded away. New England rust belt.

Hello thank you for the video have the same issue with my 2008 Mercedes Benz GL450 just a suggestion instead of the metal wire you use wouldn’t a larger metal washer work better you can buy a pack at the hardware for less than 5.$ also rivets work great if the bolts are striped or broken…

I use penny washers and a fibre washer underneath so the steel of the washer doesn’t react with the aluminium. At least Toyota use a decent size bolt and washer on the original

Solution looks easy enough for me to DIY :D

I hear something like that but only when I accelerate not when idle. Could it be the same?
@MSNYC111014 ай бұрын
Same here. Lower rpm's, while accelerating. 2012 Silverado.

Same. Got under with a flashlight and couldn't find anything loose.

Have the same issue on my 2014 Nissan Frontier. Finding the correct heat shield is almost impossible lol.

Would a large washer work better because it would be more firm?
@rasmadrak3 ай бұрын
The problem is that due to metal reacting to metal, there will eventually be new holes. Better to use "just enough" and repeat the process a few years down the road. :)

Heat shield for my 07 camry 4-cylinder above the >"Muffler"< itself had became completely loose. Removed, no rust very thin. Is this required to have it reinstalled?

good to check on that as a cause for rattling noise, in a worse case a mechanic could diagnose it as a bearing damage /problem with the crankshaft, and jus by this wrong diagnosis you would throw away your car or sell it for cheap

Well done, well thought up. But I want to close up a comment for you, your Prius needs rust removal and anti-corrosion treatment! If this is not done, it will soon rot to holes Молодец, хорошо придумал. Но хочу заделать вам замечание, на вашем Prius надо устранить ржавчину и сделать антикоррозийную обработку! Если этого не сделать он скоро сгниёт до дыр.

You're clearly not from the north. Your vehicle will look like that after a year on these roads.

why not just get a bigger round washer new bolts from hardware store?
@bradleyscott80172 ай бұрын
You can, but you risk breaking through the sheet. He uses galvanized steel to make the perfect shape he needs.

Even better to use Aluminium.

They rust, and break. Northern states do that to a car, worked on many like that and it’s happened to me with every car I’ve owned
@Falwiz Жыл бұрын
This is a real problem with Toyotas. The bolts are ridiculously undersized (10mm head) and usually snap due to rusting
