My sister planned her funeral, we carried out all her wishes including what clothing and jewelry, she also wanted her perfume, she also asked me to remove her earrings and necklace before closing the casket, they were to be given to our oldest nieces, I thought this was the hardest thing I ever would have to do , but God gave me the strength to make sure everything was taken care of, after along with my brother and other sister we closed the casket and took her to church for her Funeral Mass, we also drove past her house along with over 500 people in attendance at her services, my sister battled cancer for 11 year, I write these memories as I sit waiting for my CT Scan , as i now also am battling cancer.

This is fantastic advice. at my mother's celebration of life we had little cups of rice pudding from Costco, diet coke, and those marshmallow "Peeps" things you get at easter. All of those reminded me of my mom. The Peeps I believe we ordered on Amazon because the C.O.L. occurred in July, and it was the only way we could get them at that time of year. It was an odd combination of food, but that was my mom in 3 little ways.

Guten Morgen Frau Kari. Cute idea’s. My Grandpa was cowboy,& we had nothing at the funeral that would have let anyone know. It was just a regular boring funeral,a man Too clean,Pale and in a suit. Would have been great to see him in his fancy cowboy shirt, rodeo belt buckle some bronzer on his face and back of his hands his hat and a lasso.

My daughters father in law was a US Mail Contractor. Owned a fleet of trucks. They used the brand new box truck they owned to take him to the cemetery. It was his only ride in that truck.. The procession drove around the local post office before proceeding to the cemetery. His son drive the truck. It was so cool.

When my adult daughter passed,we had Prince on a loop & she wore a Pudge Rodriguez jersey.Everybody else wore Tigers jerseys. She was never a suits & organ music person. We (immediate family & friends) also employed a 'avoid mental breakdown tactic'..When we saw hyperventilating crying,we would yell 'cup of farts'..it would snap people out of it & was silly..But it worked.mostly.

LOL! My mom always had peanut M&Ms too! 😂 She loved the dark chocolate ones. She also loved dark Dove chocolates. My dad made sure he always had a big bag of dark chocolate M&Ms and dark chocolate Dove Promises in the house. We had bowls of both to serve to guests at the funeral, of course. Sadly, today is the two year anniversary of her death. Obviously, I'm feeling very sad, so thank you for giving me something to laugh about today.

At my grandma's memorial services, we took some of her quilts she made by hand and placed them over a table and put her box of ashes on top of it. We placed a quilts throughout the room as well. We had a beautiful ceremony and the best part was a priest came didn't know my grandma but said some amazing things about her that everyone in the room we're crying happy tears. I will always remember that. I miss her so much. Also , we put up pictures of her as she grew up including a beautiful wedding pictures. My grandma is a beautiful woman.

Kari, Perhaps people can take a page from traditional Chinese funeral practices where guests receive packets with hard candy and coins (Symbolizing something sweet to counteract the bitterness of death, and coins that representing the deceased's soul which should be spent quickly) Perhaps care packages of candy, few wallet sized photos, gift cards for local coffee shops, or even printed jokes the departed loved to torture folks with.

I like the Sienfeld episode when George took a picture of himself next to the casket so he could get a refund on airfare LOL ! I would like a picture of that next to my casket LOL ! nothing is unrealistic. I know a family that put on their mothers favorite country music CD and they brought their alcoholic beverages and did some dancing right in front the casket. Every saturday night their mom drank danced and played cards so this particular saturday night the party didn't stop
