What surprises me more about dave grohl even more so than his vocal power is his ability to keep singing like that for 2+ hours per show times 25 years and still HAVE a voice at all. HOW DOES HE DO THIS!?!?

Hi Jorge, it's really about the technique which I go into a little bit in this video and delve deep more into on some of my other ones. It's really about the compression in the chest and letting as little air out as possible. I use this technique a lot as I do a few Foo's songs in my set and have also been in a Foo's tribute (and currently setting up a refreshed Foo's cover band which we'll launch after Covid restrictions are pulled here for bands in Ireland!) Really appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment - thank you! 🤘😎🤘

Finally, someone who’s able to explain it in the simplest terms. It’s always too complex and they make it longer then it should be! Thank you so much!

Hi Philcob, if you practice the chest-voice compression as described you CAN get that Dave Grohl 'growl' sound... it just takes practice! If I can do it, anyone can do it! You have to just BELIEVE you can, and keep practicing!
@RockYourBestVocals4 жыл бұрын
Hi Philcob, wow - don't let age hold you back! Keep on working on it and you can get there! Yes, it's hard for *anyone* to sing like Dave Grohl - (unless you're Dave Grohl!!! Haha!) If you keep working on it you will be able to get that chesty growl tone, and while it may be cleaner at first, if you keep working on it will get there! Promise!
@roybuis76464 жыл бұрын
Important: DO NOT MAKE THE DISTORTED/GROWLY SOUND USING YOUR THROAT. Your don't use your throat to create the growl/rasp/distortion. If you do, you're gonna have a bad time. Make sure to have no tension in your throat and you don't strain at all.
@RockYourBestVocals4 жыл бұрын
Exactly, Roy you use your 'false chord' for this - there is a specific method I teach in my courses or 1:1 lessons which show you how to use this technique safely and you can sing like this all night every night with no pain or damage! 🤘😎🤘

Its only a singing technique not unique to dave grohl , can you touch upon his unique voice and the chords he sings in that ive never heard before or after foo fighters and probably never will because the way he drifts in and out and between notes is really spectacular and supernatural .

How does this technique compare loudness wise to your normal singing. When i try to do it there is a huge gap in loudness, is that normal ?
@RockYourBestVocals2 жыл бұрын
You can actually do this at reasonably low volume (not as loud as you might think) Using an app called "db" I measured just now... My speaking level is 66db and singing this is aprox 86db

But how do I do to get the F#4 in Everlong, Hey Johnny Park, My Hero and from that to higher notes in Best Of You etc.? I've been studying lots of videos about mixed voice, but I only get these notes in head voice, like mickey mouse not so cool. A can sing ok up to an e4, but from that on is very sad. Do you have any tips?

Hey Danilo! Great question! I totally understand, and it’s all about the breath management really. Suggest booking a 15min consultation on the 1:1 section of my website to discuss (15min consultation so I can better assess what’s happening) Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment! 🤘🏼😎🤘🏼

Greetings! Thank you so much for watching and the lovely comment! YES, it is only compression really, and YES, you can do it too! why when I try to sing with distortion using compression NOTHING happens. the only thing that can happen is strain
@RockYourBestVocals4 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure - can you please clarify "NOTHING"? Do you mean no sound comes out? There should be no strain in your throat/vocal area... think of trying to deadlift a REALLY heavy weight... you hold your breath and (letting out as little air as possible) make a grunting sound... remember to push ONLY with your abdomen (keep it tight when you push out the LEAST air you can to make the sound)... let me know if that helps! Hi Ivan, this is kindof an advanced technique but I can teach anyone to do this without hurting their voice - would be so thrilled to work with you on this, because avoiding pain is one of my specialties over my 30plus years of singing professionally (in order to sing night after night without pain or vocal loss).
