In this video, I discuss and demonstrate how to properly form the NG so that you can benefit fully from its use in your voice training (i.e., achieving 'ring' in the tone, preventing the tongue root from bunching up inside the throat, blending the registers, and developing the upper range). / singwisevocals

I'm always so impressed by your very cohesive layout of ideas and super clear, concise explanation. I really enjoy the amount of detail you include in your videos, using interesting vocal and phonetic terms that are often not addressed. You retain such intellectual integrity and detail but also keep the video concise, clear, and accessible. Great job and please keep up the good work. Your relentless clarity and objective based explanation inspires me as a voice teacher.

After reading, studying and practicing most of your singwise material, I can say after watching your video that I got it right, and this is one of the most important tips anyone can grab to apply a proper open-throat technique. Fantastic stuff, thanks.

The language you use in your teaching is so very clear and helpful! Before this lesson I was trying to articulate the G in the NG and I was not necessarily creating a closure/seal in the throat with my tongue resting at the front part of my soft palate.

I've taken voice lessons for years, some using the NG as a tool. I've never really understood the point and strongly disliked doing it. I'm now trying again, listening to several videos on it. Yours is very clear and helpful. I am able to think more deeply now as I am older and more patient! Thanks for your video. I will go into a small room and practice, then try opening slowly into vowels and maintaining some of the NG resonance.

Your channel is the most comprehensive of all the vocal coaches. My vocal coach out of Chile teaches me everything that you do. Not alot of coaches speak about some of the courses or lessons as you do. I use your channel to pair with my lessons. How much are your lessons?

Recently, I started to move back and re-read, think about most of your articles on Singwise, watch those videos again. I got to say each and everytime I pay effort to do so, I realize something new and right to do with my voice. And I feel more and more secure about my vocal technique. As I always said before, your knowledge about singing is so great and the way you share it to people who love singing is so passionate. Singing properly was like some mystery until I descover your page. I feel blessed about that. Wish you become more and more sucessful because you're so good and unique. I'm thinking about taking private vocal lesson with you on Skype, but my own money is limited cause I'm still college student now. So do you think only 30 minutes lesson a month is okay?

Hello. @ 4:21 you're mentioning a "multi directional yawn stretch". I still don't understand that concept. Is it an exercise? If so, how am I supposed to perform it? Thank you in advance.
@singwisevocals
@singwisevocals 7 жыл бұрын
When we're getting sufficient space inside the throat, we get a sort of yawn inside the throat. The throat opens upward (elevated soft palate), downwards (lowered larynx), side-to-side (dilated pharynx), and front to back (the tongue root is leaning up against the front wall of the pharynx, leaving more space inside the pharynx behind it). I hope this helps.

Do you flattened the tongue when singing NG?
@makaelajoybragg7692
@makaelajoybragg7692 8 жыл бұрын
I read somewhere that if you swallow, your tongue will naturally land in the proper ng position after the swallow is complete. For me, that position feels a lot more forward on my hard palate, and a very large area of contact, so it doesn't seem right to me. What are your thoughts?

Hi,Karyn does practising the NG also help reduce sub-glottalic air pressure? If so how?
@singwisevocals
@singwisevocals 7 жыл бұрын
Hi, Aritra! Long time no chat! Hope you're doing well. It's not so much that the NG directly affects/decreases subglottal pressure, but it can help to reduce the supraglottal pressures by opening up a side branch (nasal cavity) for resonation. The NG can, however, help to reduce vocal weight and imbalance in the glottal closure mechanism, which can indirectly help to lower subglottal pressures.
