This is probably one of the best sessions from Spring2015-Spring16 I've seen. Keep up the good work and please keep these sessions coming. Realize...we will pay it forward. The more that pay it forward, the higher the chance it will return directly to you. Something to motivate you guys to keep doing more of these mix sessions.

My favorite thing about this is that he uses all stock plug-ins, just goes to show you that you don't need crazy expensive software to get your mix to sound crisp

Incredible video. The video is long, but every moment if concise and filled with very specific easy to understand, and logical steps. The explanation of the workflow was the most helpful to me. Well done. Thanks yet again PB.

What I find handy is to record the Dsser and Noisegate directly into the mic vocal so you don't need to use too much plugins at the same time, because you will have a hard time with 8GB ram and cpu overload.

Yes it’s very important not to be too close to the mic because mics doesn’t have a meter to show you if you’re overloading it or not

I know mixing is total preference and subjective but I feel an advanced technique which I got from a wise engineer was with vocals to add a little shelf at the high end instead of cutting it out like what most people to do to add 'air' again just preference but instead of cutting from 18k+ try a little shelf boost and see what you come out with :)

I dont understand why he turned the vocals back down when he started doing the parallel processing.... kind of made it harder to hear the changes in context. Also, why is he only compressing like 1db on the parallel vocal chain?? I thought it was supposed to be heavier compression with stuff like that
@mparkerdrums9 жыл бұрын
Ok so one thing i'm curious of is; obviously when your sending a signal to an fx bus how much you send it by is relative to the volume of your original signal (in this case the vocal). So before any processing/effects do you set your volume fader of the vocal to where you can hear it nicely in comparison with the rest of the song? then start the process of mixing it.
@tomlebeau79219 жыл бұрын
+Mitchell Parker yes! but a vocal typically will be very dynamic and get lost sometimes, but go for a ball park level then compress.

COMPRESSION COMPRESSION COMPRESSION COMPRESSION COMPRESSION COMPRESSION and even more COMPRESSION. You can never have too much COMPRESSION so let's pour on some more. This is the reason why music today is flat, lifeless and without timbre or texture because dicks like "Gonad" the Compressor here have squeezed all the faq-ing life out of the performances. Music used to be a joy to listen to but not any more. It died about 10 years ago.
